Dr. Nosophoros said:I'd say "Porn" is the in your face visual while "Erotica", while less visually graphic spurs the "minds eye" to create the visuals and sexual fantasies according to personal taste (which I'd say are much more gratifying than someone elses scripted vision)
Would I rather see a naked woman or a clothed or semi- clothed woman when I first meet her? For myself overall, I'd say a little mystery goes a long way. I'd say that most if not all people have already had sex with somebody they are interested in (in their mind) long before actual physical contact. The thoughts (fantasies) one has had for a week, two weeks months years? of what you'd like to do to that person when you actually did get physically involved can make for some really pleasurable sex, so overall I'd say erotica is much more effective if utilized positively.
Can porn degrade? I would say what is there to find degrading in what most do in their minds and bedrooms anyway.
What, if anything, is the difference between porn and erotica? Can it be reasonably said that porn degrades people while erotica doesn't? If so, why? If not, why not?
Not allowed frubal you at this time. You're dead on.It's like the distinction between "religion" and "cult". It's "erotica" if you get it. It's "porn" if someone else does and you don't.
Porn is perceptual, while erotica is conceptual. The perceptual is on the level of animals. The conceptual is uniquely human. This is why we say women are angelic beings by comparison, even lesbian women, because we prefer written erotica to the visual pornography which men hold sacred.
