    Excerpted.....
An Oregon politician confessed to writing a racist letter to himself, police said.

Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston told KEPR that the letter that recent county commissioner candidate Jonathan Lopez received on June 23 was written by himself and that the incident will be referred as filing a false report to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office. Edmiston said Lopez admitted to writing the letter and the police are also investigating fabricated credentials during his candidacy, the publication reported.

Lopez told the East Oregonian that he “never meant to mislead” and intended to talk with Edmiston about racism, with the letter as an example.

“I never meant to file a report, it just kind of spiraled out,” Lopez said, according to the East Oregonian.

Lopez originally posted the letter on his Facebook page, which has since been deleted.

The letter said that “Mexicans” are “not welcome here” and “America is for the God fearing, pro gun, pro life humans who refuse to be controlled by the government,” The Hermiston Herald reported.

“Many don’t know me or who I am and where I stand,” Lopez wrote in the Facebook post, according to KEPR. “As an American born man who served in the USCG, fire and rescue services. I’m also proud of where my parents and grandparents were born and raised, Mexico. I have lived a life full of obstacles and challenges Including racism. There is no room or tolerance of that.”

Lopez ran for the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners in the May 2020 primary and finished fourth, according to the East Oregonian.

    Note:
N Ameristanian Politics is in a debating section, but I've nothing to debate.
It's just awful that people (of multiple political orientations) will play tricks like this.

If society deems that something is virtuous, status-enhancing and confers increased moral authority then you create a strong incentive for people to fake it, whether that thing is religious piety, charity or victimhood.

Well, if I was going to write a threatening letter to myself, I'd hope to be smart enough to write in such a way that it wouldn't get traced back to me.

We need to vote in smarter politicians, so if they are going to do this kind of stuff, they can do it without getting caught.

When a ding-dong pulls this kind of garbage, it emboldens some to use it to challenge all reports even true ones.

    Odd thing....
    The letter is called "racist".
Yet all I saw was ethnic, political, & religious bigotry.

Is "racism" now replacing the word, "bigotry"?

In which case, I'd suppose it's the one's not getting caught we ought to worry about.

Trump really hasn't been caught in anything he has had to be accountable for.

Agreed, this is definitely something that no political candidate should be doing. If you can't make your case without lying, then you do not have a case to begin with.

That's a big pet peeve of mine; the conflation of race, religion, culture, and/or nationality.

I wonder what pressure was brought on him, or what evidence uncovered, to make him ‘fess up?
