Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak'

Not surprising considering that the teachings and examples of Christ are antithetical to conservative ideology. If he were to return today, the right would reject him for being "woke" and "socialist".
It seems a mistake to describe Trump & MAGAs
as "conservative". The cult is something similar,
but different, eg, **** the Constitution.

They wave the American flag while ****ting on everything it stands for. They loudly profess their faith while ****ting on everything Christ stood for. Of course they're lousy examples of the things they identify as.

It's the rise of the Flintstones, by which I mean the fearful, brutish element relative to the intellectual tradition of the Jetsons. Another metaphor for that is the Klingons and Federation id Star Trek. Another was the two factions that arose in Lord Of The Flies - Jack et al vs Piggy et al. The history of man has been the gradual transition from Flintstones into Jetsons, from savages to gentlepeople.

We're living through a setback now. The Flintstones feel emboldened and empowered, hence "the rise of the Flintstones." Trump the brutal, vicious, intolerant, angry, vengeful authoritarian is the image of the Old Testament god. It's not surprising that such people call Jesus a wimp. They think the same of all liberals.

I happen to agree with them about the Sermon On The Mount, but not for their reasons. which says

Another poster: "Qualities the Romans would have loved to see in their conquered subjects, which is probably why they had a lot to do with the formation of Jesus' philosophy of meekness and turn the other cheek."

My reply: "Agreed. That passage is undoubtedly what made this religion appeal to Constantine. The believers see those passages as beautiful and loving, but they're not. I see, 'stand down, little man, accept your lot, know your place, meekness is blessed, longsuffering is divine. If smitten, give your abuser the other cheek. Your reward comes after death. We promise!' I see it as I described it. So did Napoleon. What better statement of what the people teaching these thing actually have in mind for those who will take their advice than this? : "How can you have order in a state without religion? For, when one man is dying of hunger near another who is ill of surfeit, he cannot resign himself to this difference unless there is an authority which declares 'God wills it thus.' Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet." - Napoleon Bonaparte"

I don't believe Jesus could ever be considered woke or socialist but then He wasn't conservative because the old ways were insufficient. However if one thinks of conservative as retaining that which is good then He qualifies.

Thread sounds like an Onion headline.

On that note, I'm not convinced that America's right wing Christians have even a passing familiarity with the gospels.

Of course Jesus' teachings and examples are considered "woke" and "socialist" by conservative standards:
  • "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Matthew 7:1-2)
  • "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" (Matthew 7:3)
  • "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her [an adulterous woman]." (John 8:7)
  • "For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Matthew 7:2)
  • "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions." (Luke 12:15)
  • "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." (Matthew 6:24)
  • "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys." (Luke 12:33)
  • "Put your sword back in its place... for all who draw the sword will die by the sword." (Matthew 26:52)
  • "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." (John 13:34)
  • "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you." (Matthew 5:44)
  • "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:24)

This looks like another in a seemingly endless succession of leftist hate-threads directed against political opponents.

It's ironic that people who are so convinced (falsely in my opinion) of their own intellectual superiority endlessly preach to their activist choir and make no attempt whatsoever to reach out and try to convince people who don't already believe as they do. It's just non-stop insults 24-7.

If threads like this are meant as evangelism, then it's p*ss-poor and counter-productive. It just hardens your enemies against you.

If this behavior is meant to express group-solidarity and support, then maybe the complaint in the opening post has some merit. Do you really feel so weak and so threatened by people who think and believe differently than you? What happened to all the pious talk about "inclusivity" and "diversity"?

"Waah! Stop making observations about our embarrassing, hypocritical behavior!"

Sometimes people need to be grabbed by the scruff of their neck and have their faces rubbed in their own ****. It's a valuable teaching moment.
