Old School Refugee Crisis

At one time, the Irish were the refugee crises in the U.S. I guess history does repeat itself.
That's where most of my ancestors came from, originally. Fleeing the disaster that was late 19th century Ireland.
Things were pretty uncomfortable for them for a couple of generations.

Not just the Irish, but the Italians, Chinese, Jews, Catholics. Native Americans were refugees in their own country.

The Irish face a great deal of discrimination, as did other groups.

But I don’t believe the locked Irish children up in concentration camps.

It really is.
I see the main difference as the fact that nearly any white person could get in. A cursory check for tuberculosis and such, and you got handed papers. Simple as that, for most people trying to immigrate.

That's what made America Great.

Same thing today, a big influx of people will be net gain over time.

That's a large and complicated question.

I'm culturally very Catholic, born and raised in an extremely Catholic family. I don't believe the theology, but that's not all that important. The community is what's important.

The liberal/conservative thing is much more complex. This country was built on the concept of immigration. Doesn't that make broadly inclusive immigration policy the conservative view?

Similarly, I think that people in general should find a compatible mate then get married and stay married if at all possible. That includes gay people, so I consider gay marriages being recognized by the state to be the conservative view.

I am so conservative that I sometimes appear liberal to many ideologues. One result is that I've been booted out of both the Liberal Only DIR and the Conservative Only DIR, here on RF.

My user title was "Celestial Highness" for a long time. But when I got booted out of the Conservative Only, and the Catholic, and the Liberal Only DIRs, I changed my user title to slightly better reflect the reality.

And also to annoy the RF staff. Just a little.

Because the Irish, like most immigrants of the time, entered the country legally. Criminals have their children taken away from them no matter what country they came from.

I've not gone that far, but I'm one who believes in libertarianism (of a particular kind) once humanity has evolved enough to handle that kind of freedom. But not today. And a long time ago, I split my ballot between a socialist party and the libertarians in a fit of something or other. But I'm not a 'conservative' (trump-lover) in today's world.

It used to be that "conservatives" were patriots who understood and supported the best of the American dream. Now every few days there's another racist or bigoted statement from all levels of the political establishment.

Arizona Republican lawmaker criticized for saying U.S. will soon 'look Like South American countries'

So to use a Gestalt therapy trick, take two chairs. Put the word conservative on one and liberal on another. Now have a debate with yourself.

Okay, which ones cross the border illegally?
I'm not going to do your homework for ya, so maybe try googling this to find out for yourself as many Irish have come here and overstayed their visas.

Not at all, but my long experience with you is that facts really don't matter, so why should I waste my time.

Matter of fact, ...

Then why did you even waste your time responding to my last entry? Couldn't help yourself could you...
