Tonight I saw a 2016 rerun of Jimmy Fallon from when Obama was on the show. I know Obama made some mistakes. But I very much miss him, and even more so since watching that program. There is something about Obama's demeanor that makes him qualified to calm the people as he makes tough decisions, and sometimes mistakes, then tends to learn and grow as we had grown under his leadership. I still have a lot of respect for the man.

I wasn't too happy with most of Mr. Obama's economic policies, nor his militaristic approach to the Middle East, but the man had class, respect for himself and others, and a sense of standards. There were things he wouldn't stoop to. Nor does he seem to have been largely motivated by malice, hatred, and spite.

Yep. He never would have fired the pandemic response team.

I could be wrong, but I recall hearing the team was organized and put in place under his administration to begin with.

I could also be wrong but I think a new team might have been, but to carry out what was already in place under GW.

We would need to check of course, to be sure, but that would make sense. The attacks of 9/11 made everyone in government hyper-aware of how vulnerable the country would be to biological attacks. Setting up a team to deal with pandemics would have hit two birds with one stone.

I never in my lifetime expected to see a black president elected, but I was and and am so glad Obama was. He wasn't perfect, and I sometimes did criticize some of his actions, but I do believe he at least tried to do what was best for the country and not just himself.

And the rest of his family showed class and compassion for others as well. We've seen their girls grow up, and their demeanor seems to be quite positive and intelligent. And I believe Michelle is classy and intelligent all the way. Ya, she made a couple of gaffs early on but did apologize.

The above are also the reasons why Trump can't stand them as they had intelligence and class. So, he has been hellbent even when first elected to try and tear down all that the Obama created and did, badmouthing him at every chance he's had.

Obama tried to be a unifier, Trump is a divider, so hopefully people will remember this in November.

As articulate and composed as he was, I can't look at Obama's militaristic approach toward the Middle East as anything less than a dealbreaker.

Ask anyone whose family was killed in a drone strike carried out under his administration and they probably won't agree that he had any class or respect. In my opinion, human life is too valuable to allow us to look at his military policy as simply just another issue he was wrong about. It was a disaster.

The current resident has no respect for life, Democrats, anyone who gets in his way, those that don't kiss his butt, the health of anyone but himself, the rule of law, honor, honesty, integrity, justice and the American Way.

There was a piece I read about how both Democratic and Republican Presidents in the past responded to tragedies. The current one retweets "the only good Republican is a dead Republican" (well, Democrat, of course, but he is trying to invoke the same sentiment going the other way with obvious escalation.

I remember when we thought the same of the possibility of a Catholic president.
Obama seemed to have the winning combination; intelligence, empathy, and the desire to unite, and listen.

I'm not trying to sum up Mr. Obama's overall moral worth (or not). Calculations of that complexity are way beyond my pay grade. There are aspects to his behavior in office that are like comparing arctic ice and banjos.

For instance, the consequences of his treating the press with respect and dignity vs his obscene aggression in the Middle East. The former had consequences well beyond those which might be easily suspected. The latter too. But otherwise, to say his behavior in the press room mitigates his aggression in the Middle East would strike me as ridiculous as turning that around and saying his aggression in the Middle East changes the nature and consequences of his behavior in the press room. Such comparisons simply do not compute.

I agree. It seems to me that most leaders have one or more redeeming qualities. Trump, on the other hand, has yet to show even one considerably redeeming quality among his tantrums, hatefulness, and impulsivity. The guy is almost irredeemably incompetent and venomous as a leader.
