Do you find nudity offensive?

Why is being nude such a taboo in our society? If God made us and our bodies, how can anyone object to seeing a naked human body? I'm not talking about anything sexual or pornographic, just simply the human body. What are your thoughts?

I do not find nudity offensive, but some bodies in my opinion are not meant to be seen naked. No offense to anyone. I think it stems back to the idea of needing clothing to stay warm and stay alive. And gradually grew into the idea of clothes being necessary and the absence of clothes being unnecessary. Then this grew into a moral thing, and so on and so forth. That is my idea, I could be gravely mistaken. But couldn't we all. :)

I also think that a naked human body in art is completely different than pornagraphy. It is being painted or such for the beauty of it. Not for the horniness of the painter. If that makes any sense.

Covering up is something of a necessity in civilized society - not that nudity is bad, it's just a hinderance to all the other facets of human interaction that aren't sexual. While the thought of being surrounded by firm breasts on the train to uni is appealing, it would soon become a living hell, not least because simple non-sexual communication would be very difficult, and you'd end up constantly covering your eyes to give the same effect as clothes, which is obviously a lot less convenient. I would assume nudist colonies would only work if they were made up of happily married couples (with nasty-looking bodies) or a bunch of horny singles who simply weren't interested in anything but sex.

I don't find nudity offensive. I do believe that there are situations where due to societal constraints and other issues that nudity is inappropriate; in some cases mildly, and others severely. As some have also brought up there are times and situations where nudity can be dangerous, even to the point of being life-threatening.

I have no problem with nudity...
certenly no probem with toplessness... I hate havieng to wear a shirt on a nice day...
I think in todays over-sexed and sexually-repressed (odd that we can have both at the same time) society that it would be difficult.
We developed a culture that views bare flesh as something erotic and lost the maturity that it brings. Unfortunatly we also developed a culture where the opposite sex is viewed more and more as just 'sex objects'...
this is very unhealthy...

Nudity shouldnt be looked as offensive in our society but it is. I feel we buy clothes to cover up whats inside.

You are probably right about that and the bigger the problem the more fancy the clothes.

Forget about sun damage, vitamine D is good for you. WHat I would worry about is the dirt... think about how dirty your cloths can get in a single day, there would be no barier protecting our skin from the harsh polutants... yuck!

While I do not find nudity offencive (its natural and everyone, even the most obese, is beautiful), I do think people need to show descretion at to the appropriate time to "whip it out." Nudity is considered the norm in all nudist colonies so it looses it's shock value and become almost a liberating experience, But in cultures where nudity only happens behind closed doors I think that policy should be respected and it should be kept that way. For example if one woman were to decide to walk naked down the street she has every right to, but law prohibits it because it is against the norm, unexpected, and dangerous. People may become destracted and cause an accident while staring. An acutal example of this is a billboard that was put up in time square, for Calvin Klein underwear or something, that was so shockingly nude that it caused dozens of accidents before it was ordered to be taken down. In most of our cultures Breasts ad genitalia are private, and I believe in this area it is commendable. Those who want to live nude for any reason other than shock value can find another culture to allign themselves with and live life the way they were born.

I am not prude, but I think most people are best covered up from the aesthetic point of view. Goodness me, some folk should not be let out wearing less than a bell tent, LOL!!! Seriously though, if folk want to join nudists clubs or take part in skinny dipping or whatever, that is fine as long as it is between consenting adults in private. I really do not wish to see folk parading down the high street in the altogether!

Now what fun would it be if everyone went around naked? 8) You wouldn't have the fun of imagining what's underneath someone's clothes. :p And it would seriously stuff up some people's public speaking ability, if they used the old 'picture them naked/in their undies' trick. Handshakes could take on a whole new danger (gotta make sure you don't grab the wrong thing :eek:mg: ). Oh, and really, who would want to do away with uniforms!? *evilgrin* I personally like a little mystery...unwrapping the package is half the fun. And if you don't like it, you can just wrap it back up and give it back.

Well, the only reason nudity might be offensive to someone is if they are taught it is supposed to be offensive to them.

Some cultures never wear clothes, and tromp around in the jungle all their lives with nothing covering them up. I see no evidence of embarrassment, mass rapes occuring, etc. So I do not believe there is a such thing as natural modesty and nudity is not wrong. Your feelings about it are something you are taught.

O'Reilly I remember was raising sand about teen nudist camps a while back. Something I guess that he didn't know had been going on for years. He was trying to portray them as infinitely evil, but yet there was no evidence to indicate this.

But I would say that most everyone likes to see a good looking naked body and if everyone started going naked after a couple of days no one would really notice except for the clothing companies, and the folks who worked for them.

And this would probably kill the porn industry also.

So it would definitely have an impact on the job market.

There is an hysteria in this country concerning all things sexual. I'm not surprised that O'Reilly would raise "sand" about teen nudist camps. O'Reilly is more of a hysterical old prude than he likes to think he is.

nudity doesnt offend me. I prefer not to see it unless it would be between my husband and I. OUtside of that, there is no reason to see it.
