The American left seems to be harboring an increasing amount of regressive and selectively apologetic thinking.
It's kind of like what the Tea Party did with the Republicans. They are a sizeable chunk, no doubt, but they aren't the most, they aren't the majority, but the are the loudest, they are the most obnoxious, and they're darlings to news outlets who are less news and more demonizing the other side. And, of course, the Right as well is still demanding censorship of demonic influences anything they think is related to sex.
The real problem is neither side is good about owning up to their monsters and condeming them, and instead the Looney Left and Risible Right ended up buying out the fan clubs.

Nigeria: Man stoned to death, set ablaze in front of police by radical Islamist mob on charges of blasphemy.

'On Tuesday (March 30) morning, a water vendor was stoned to death and set ablaze by an Islamist mob in Sade village in the Bauchi State of Nigeria. The incident took place in the backdrop of accusations that the victim had allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad.

As per reports, the deceased has been identified as Talle Mai Ruwa. He was a Muslim by faith and was ‘mentally disturbed.’...

...On Tuesday morning, the whole town gathered at one place and then ambushed the police station. At that time, Ruwa was in his prison cell. The cops were highly outnumbered by the Islamist mob, who then took the matter into their own hands. The victim was first escorted out of his prison cell and pelted with stones. While unleashing violence, the Islamist mob continued to raise the slogan of ‘Allahu Akbar.’ The stoning continued until Ruwa lay motionless. The mob then doused his body with petrol and car tyres and set him on fire in front of his elderly mother.'

What a way to treat the mentally ill! And seemingly no consideration for the effects of trauma on his elderly mother too.
The wonderful Islamic religion of pieces.. or rest in peace err.... peace.

One obvious yet valuable lesson to be learned here is: do not commit blasphemy in a place where you will be stoned and burned for it.

There are parts of the world still living in the bronze age.

This is a personification of society on religion.

Stonings are more like lynch mobs that courts of law. Consequently, they often lack evidence, witnesses, and facts. It is, therefore, rather easy to insult Mohammad, and virtually any statement could be construed as such.

When human life is valued less than one's principles, one must evaluate one's principles.

If one seeks out perfection, with the idea of destroying imperfection, one must evaluate if the judge is perfect. If not....."execute your prime directive, Vger" (Star Trek, probe collided with soil purifier, scrambled its directives, mistook Capt. Kirk for inventor Roykirk, was about to destroy the Enterprise, when Capt. Kirk pointed out that it made errors).

The relentless pursuit of perfection often snags the man with a log in his eye. "Judge not, lest ye be judged."

Ah another with no compassion for the mentally ill i see.
They are too mental to even see it less than begin to understand it.

Education apparently hasn't improved past much beyond the knowledge of goatherding and superstition.

The lesson is blasphemy laws should never exist, they are always wrong, and it should be condemned.
Those who kill over it are the ones who have lessons to learn. Except they likely won't. They have been overdosed on their religion, and have become slaves to its dogma.
And the lesson is that the mentally ill often face many hardships. Including from primitive mentalities that see demons amd affronts to god rather than an illness than was not chosen.

In my understanding a mental ill person do not know what they do or say when they have a mental brakedown (i have a friend who has been mentally ill for 10 year) And their words should be taken lightly when it comes to insult, if the man was not mentally ill he should have some form of punishment, but it look to me like the islamic mob used a extreme version of Sharia law, but does the sharia give them right to kill a mentally ill person? Personally i am not an expert on sharia law, but as a human being i can not see any value in killing a person because he said a few nasty things about Islam or prophet Muhammad.
Would muhammad have killed an mentally sick person  I do not be live the prophet would do such a thing.

I feel for the killed man, and his family

As far as i know, the blasphemy law do not count for non muslims, so if a muslim kill a non muslim for blasphemy i belive that it is the muslim who are doing the crime. (correct me if i am wrong)

Except that the man was mentally ill and was merely accused of committing blasphemy.

It seems to me the obvious yet valuable lesson here is that blasphemy laws and mob justice have no place in any humane society. I think we should condemn those instead of engaging in apologetics and pursuing diversions from the main issue.

How well do you trust that news source? Any other sources for this story? Just a thought...

Edit; Google search confirms that judicial stonings do occur in Nigeria. Which is pure savagery and a blatant human rights abuse, no question. Can’t find any other reports on this specific story though.

If you google the name of the man and click on "news" several sources come up, here is another one, Last Moments Of Bauchi Man Burnt To Death For Allegedly Insulting Prophet Muhammad – Residents | Sahara Reporters

The lesson is blasphemy laws should never exist, they are always wrong, and it should be condemned.

“Should” according to whom? “Wrong” according to whom? No, there is no “should”. It is not about “right” or “wrong”. Blasphemy laws exist in certain parts of the world. If you behave there as you behave here you could be stoned and burned to death or worse.
