One time back when I was a teenager in college I was hungry and there was nothing in the refrigerator but two pounds of bacon. I fried up and ate the whole thing right out of the frying pan without draining off the grease. I passed out on the living room floor and slept in that same spot for three days straight. I'd say the correct dosage for a good night's sleep would be about a quarter pound.

This all sounds familiar. :)

My girlfriend and I are currently reading a lot of literature on this subject and experimenting with all sorts of things so as to do away with mass produced cosmetics, deodorants and whatnot. Home made herbal remedies, ideally from herbs that are grown locally, will be part of the effort eventually.

At the moment we're trying different herbal blend teas. There is a guy we met at a large organic farm who specialises in them so we're getting the recipes from him. They're great but plain green tea is still my favourite. Our other project is to refine a deodorant recipe. We've found Tea Tree oil as an ingredient works wonders.

Oh, please let me know what you find!

There's only one (1) deodorant I've found that doesn't have corn in it, and that's Crystal. It uses minerals of some sort (no aluminum) but it could use a few "additives" of some sort to help boost the strength.

Tea Tree oil really is good at preventing bacteria building up under the arms. It seems to do the job for a considerably long period of time. The only trouble is its nice not to have to smell of Tea Tree oil sometimes. :) So we use other essential oils with Tea Tree to alter the smell to something more like aftershave/perfume. Adding some Witch Hazel acts as a mild antiperspirant and mixing it all with rubbing alcohol and/or rose water and some sodium bicarbonate seems to produce a good blend. I don't have exact measures for an ideal recipe yet but I soon will.

Thanks! I did notice some of those out on a couple of forums I hit on a Google Search earlier today. Lemongrass oil is another one that turns up a bit, along with lavendar (just to smell nice), and aloe vera leaf extract was another one.

I saw a recipe for making up the deodorant with beeswax, if you want a solid.

I need to do something because Eibhlin gets very stinky dancing and she's still using this stuff with corn ingredients in it because the Crystal just isn't enough. :(
