Mystery Babylon Identified Using Just Two Verses

“Babylon” or “Babylon the Great,” referred to in Revelations, is figurative because it does not have a physical location.(Revelations 17:1, 2) “Waters” is identified in Revelation. 17:15.
Many theologians recognize that "Babylon the Great" was a cloaked reference to the Roman Empire and "Babylon" [feminine] a reference to the city of Rome.

Can't be...did you not read the interpretation of Nebuchadnezzars dream from Daniel chapter2?

"42And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. 43As you saw the iron mixed with clay, so the peoplese will mix with one another, but will not hold together any more than iron mixes with clay.

44In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will shatter all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself stand forever "

How many toes do 2 human feet have? Is it not 10?

The kings of the feet of iron and clay clearly come AFTER the Roman Empire! The Roman Empire fell in 476 AD.

So, the next historical question is this...

what was one of the most influential periods in history after 476 AD? Was it not the "dark ages" and the reformation?

This suggests that the Justinian and Constantinian combination of church and state and the subsequent crusades that occurred after that time had something to do with this prophecy in Revelation.

So i think once we realise that history, we start to develop a sense of who Babylon and this mystery women is...clearly something to do with paganism, a false church, and the antichrist.

Yokefellow, your claim that the mystery women is Mother Earth is simply not tennable because it does not alilgn with either biblical prophecy (Nebuchadnezzars dream) or the subsequent fulfillment of that prophecy in written history (the crusades, dark ages and reformation and finally, second coming of Christ). We currently live in an age where there is no single world empire, rather, a number of world powers that are inherently strong and inherently week and whom do not align with each other forming a single world power (ie US, China, Russia, European Union etc)

We know how it was interpreted back then, and basically its message was [paraphrased]: "Keep the faith and God will take care as the Church is under severe threat by the Romans." This solace for those who read this if one studies early Churxh history and who and what was attacking it.

BTW, the reference to "666" was put in present terms back then as it says they would know who that is. [Ceaser Nero]
