Former talk show host Jerry Springer puts his law degree to use, hearing real cases and rendering verdicts in a TV courtroom.

    "Order in the court!"
    "Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!"

    OMG. lol!

Although I genuinely didn't know Mr Springer was a lawyer. He always did strike me as more intelligent than his show. Still a sell out shill, but at least a decently educated sell out shill.

As for other countries, I don't think so. I don't watch "real" TV anymore since Netflix. But this genre seems mostly an American phenomenon.

They're arbitrators, not actual judges, and they agree to dismiss the actual lawsuits in exchange for settling on the show.

Hmm, there are things a little bit like that in the UK. I suspect most countries have them. There's something in the UK called the Jeremy Kyle show, which I think also did an American version. Whether it showed in the US, I don't know.

There was a Jeremy Kyle show - axed after one of the participants committed suicide shortly after being on the show (that edition not shown I believe). We also have Judge Rinder (not watched although have seen Rinder elsewhere), and he is a bit more entertaining it seems (not a judge but he is a barrister):

I didn't know he had a law degree. I'm surprised that he even graduated from high school.

I did watch The People's Court when it first came out with Judge Wapner, but then came all the copycats after that, by which time the fascination already wore off. And at least The People's Court used the actual litigants, not actors. If they're going to use actors, might as well watch Perry Mason or Night Court instead.

I don't think it makes a mockery of the legal system; it's just bad entertainment. In any case, the legal system deserves to be mocked, so that wouldn't upset me.
