2 police officers killed 20 citizens killed 100+ injured at a open air country music festival. Approximately 20,000 people in attendance when a man sprayed into the crowd from the 32 floor of a nearby apartment building. Absolutely horrifying!

Police described the suspect as being a local Las Vegas man who acted alone and was not believed to be connected to any militant group, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters.

“We have no idea what his belief system was,” he said. “Right now, we believe he was the sole aggressor and the scene is static.”

Thing is, snipers are extremely difficult to hit, even if you are well prepared and have the right weapon. This is a scenario that the national rifles can't easily exploit.

These sort of shootings tend to be ambushes, catching crowds off guard so people would be dropping regardless if they were armed or not, then those who aren't shot would take cover and start pulling their guns, which would probably result in people firing upon each other in the confusion, not knowing who's the assailant and who isn't.

Saw the guys picture, a white American with a goatee, and a Filipino wife, with no political stuff on her facebook, proud grandma, used to work as a casino hostess.

Edit: It was the "Route 91 Harvest country music festival", which doesn't appear to be involved with anything contentious.

The way they exploit fears, I don't see them thinking it a challenge. The whole idea of "you need a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun" pretty much covers every situation. They don't focus on emphasizing that you need training, that your gun won't make you invincible, or that doing so could potentially make things much, much worse (as it likely would have here).

That isn't evidence of his religious affiliation. For all we know, he could have been Muslim. Or Christian. Or Buddhist. Or atheist. Or whatever.

Most Muslim fanatics have a full beard or are clean shaven to try and disguise their beliefs, they might have a shaved mustache, and the rest a beard. I've never seen a Muslim with a goatee.
