I was just wondering how RFers felt about Freemasonry, with it's hidden secrets, and cult like allegorical rituals. I know Hiram Abiff is the central character that one must play the part of to become initiated, but it's a story of "secrecy", and I don’t know what's good about keeping n secrets from anyone... IMO if someone has good information, they ought to proclaim it for the benefit of all, and that to me, secrecy usually involves deceitful things that someone is hiding.

    ...What's your take on Freemasonry?

From my POV, Freemasonry is not evil. They attempt to maintain an accurate record of religious / mythical rituals and methods more than anything else. They advocate documentation for historical purposes, but don't perscribe performing these rituals.

Freemasonry is incompatible with Jesus Christ because they believe in a society where brothers help one another secretely and not aboveboard.
Jesus Christ spoke of a meritocratic society, where those with merits are chosen because of those merits. And not because they belong to the same Freemasonic lodge.

Answering the question, well...I do not think Freemasonry is evil. Freemasons achieved great things throughout history...but only when there were still absolute monarchies in Europe.
Now Europe has very liberal democracies only.
So I guess they are replacing those absolute monarchs that they used to fight 200 years ago.
Because they are becoming more powerful than the People, who is the voice of a Nation.
    Vox Populi , Vox Dei

They failed in many ways. They never fought racism, slavery, anything that they could have. They're just one more institution of a religious nature. I guess 'Mediocre' is the right term.

IMO, something is not necessarily good or evil because it is a secret.

...Well I don't know what secrets they're keeping or why, but I know that if I have a good idea, or some kind of beneficial knowledge, I share with people equally because it's rhe right thing to do IMO.

Transparency is pretty much the gold standard, IMO. So if you can be transparent, you probably should.

My father was a free mason and a decent human being. The organisation promotes good works and philanthropy.

Freemasonry is just a nice male fraternity that does good works. It does not deserve all the stupid conspiracy theories about it. Think of Fred Flintstone and the Order of Royal Waterbuffalos. Completely harmless.

Sure it has secrecy. That's just it's shtick, to make it attractive, to make it seem special. Some people like that sort of thing. My sorority had a secret initiation ceremony. Big whoop.

I didn't mean that Freemasons are not good people.
They are. They are cultured, altruistic and worry about the common good, especially at Local level.
The problems arise when Freemasons reach high political positions and let all their Brothers reach all the remaining political positions, and by doing so, they prevent the politicians (chosen by the People) from having a voice.
They create a Freemasonic Élite that the People doesn't want.
Élite vs People. Because they are obliged by statute to say "my brothers first".

I do believe that the voice of the People is God's voice. So, if the People elects a representative, I respect them, even if I do not like that representative. Because God wants so. Deus vult.
Vice versa, if a Politician is elected but not by the People, it means it is against God, because Vox Populi Vox Dei.

I cannot be loyal to the State and to the Lodge at the same time. Because they have conflicting interests.
In my language the word State means much more than in English. It is like a Spiritual Authority.

People generally like to have sex in private. I understand that some people like to have sex in public. Sex is neither good nor evil.
Sometimes it is good to know who is having sex with whom (transparency), but there's no need to be observing their personal interactions (secrecy).

So when you talk about transparency and Freemasonry what sort of transparency are you advocating?
What's wrong with conducting private meetings, private conversations, or private rituals? Is there something particularly evil that Freemasonry is hiding if not everything they do is open to the public?

What should we be worried about?
