I'm starting to think I might actually be a Socialist of some sort.
The only thing being is that I'm not pro-statism; but I do believe that huge businesses should have regulation, and that social services, education, and healthcare should be available to all.
Is there even an active Socialist party in the US anymore?
It actually took me long time to come to terms with the fact that many of the positions I was taking put me into the realm of socialism. Ideologically, I'm a libertarian, and eschew the state altogether (as much as possible, anyway). I also acknowledge that capitalism puts the worker into wage slavery, and economic coercion is every bit as harmful as governmental coercion.
Yes. Socialist Party USA - Home
And there are other American organizations out there, such as the Democratic Socialists of America, which is a political organization but not a political party.
Being that I'm generally non-statist, would that technically make me a Libertarian? I wouldn't think so, just by the fact I believe businesses should have regulation. That alone puts me at odds with them. That, and I have my general issues with their political philosophy.
Great to know! Thanks!
They're restarting the Socialist Party of North Carolina, and I'm thinking about driving up for one of their meetings to see what they have to say. But it's a two hour drive, and that's a haul for a 45-minute get together. I would love to see a chapter locally, but I'm in a military town and few people are going to willing to openly identify as a socialist around here.
The Reform Party of North Carolina was completely refounded three months ago. I'm involved with that effort.
Ok, but what does that have to with socialism (this is the Socialist Only section)?
TheScholar, do you identify as a socialist and do you consider the Reform Party of NC to be a socialist political party? Two part answer:

I do not consider myself to be a socialist...
That's a long drive for a short meeting. I knew you'd be up to something dodgy.I'm slowly melding the back yards shared by renters in four houses and two basement suites into a single communal garden area by planting stuff directly on and weaving across the property lines. Mwahahaha.... So subversive.
I also give generously to homeless people.
What are you doing?
Same, but it isn't enough.Resisting the sickness of greed.
