Clearly in the region it's a sellers market for the arms merchant. It also strikes me as an update to a 60's song "Merry Minuet"

Pakistan air force carries out retaliatory strikes in Iran, targeting Pakistani insurgents

Pakistan’s air force launched retaliatory airstrikes early Thursday on Iran allegedly targeting militant positions, an attack that killed at least seven people and further raised tensions between the neighboring nations.

The strikes in Sistan and Baluchestan province follow Iran’s attack Tuesday on Pakistani soil that killed two children in the southwestern Baluchistan province.

The strikes imperil diplomatic relations between the two neighbors, as Iran and nuclear-armed Pakistan have long regarded each other with suspicion over militant attacks.

The attacks also raised the threat of violence spreading in a Middle East unsettled by Israel’s war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Iran also staged airstrikes late Monday in Iraq and Syria over an Islamic State-claimed suicide bombing that killed over 90 people earlier this month. Iraq has recalled its ambassador from Iran for consultations.

"Merry Minuet" some lyrics. Just substitute Hamas, Israel, Iran, Pakistan etc and you're all set. Part of the lyrics:

The whole world is festering
With unhappy souls
The French hate the Germans,
The Germans hate the Poles

Italians hate Yugoslavs
South Africans hate the Dutch
And I don't like anybody very much

But we can be grateful
And thankful and proud
That man's been endowed
With a mushroom shaped cloud

And we know for certain
That some happy day
Someone will set the spark off
And we will all be blown away

They're rioting in Africa
There's strife in Iran
What nature doesn't do to us
Will be done by our fellow man.

Iran's recent escalation seems to me to be largely targeted towards the internal public. The Ayatollahs are at a crossroads. They can't either remain in power nor let go of it. Much like Galtieri and so many others, they attempt to deal with the impossible situation by invoking a pressing need to show unity against an external enemy.

It just might work. But if it does not, they may well fall. It is even possible that they have convinced themselves that they are the flaming sword of Ali, destroying the enemies of Allah in this world so rebellious against it will.

In that case, it will be bloody. You can't convince a fanatic with nothing to lose to be reasonable.

Best case scenario is that they acted too late or the Iranians are now largely fed with them and won't stand for this play of power with their lives in the line. That, too, will be bloody.

It confirms what I've been saying all along that these people love war.

They breathe war, they worship war , war is in their blood and nothing will quench their thirst for more war.

Great lyrics.

The narrative, not so much. But the story is heart felt.
