If God is telling you to kill people, you're probably not really hearing God at all.

The main reason people see the Christian god as a violent, sadistic, murdering egomaniac is because they have read the bible. The bible depicts god as such - a petty, vengeful sociopath. He slaughters almost the entire population of the earth at on point - babies and all.

How do you know that the violent killers aren’t in touch with a real god and the peaceful religious leaders are just good people in themselves? All you seem to be basing your opinion on is wishful thinking.

As is so often pointed out in this context, the nature of the world doesn’t really suggest the existance of a peaceful, loving god being in control of things.

Of course not. The "problem of evil" lends more credence to polytheistic theologies, whereby forces of reality that are adversarial to humans are acknowledged and deified as much as the things that aren't. The gods aren't expected to revolve around humanity and play nice with us.

Unlike so many other religious leaders, to some extent Jesus, the Buddha, and Lao Tzu, among others seem to have contact with a God that did not tell them to go out killing people or starting wars. So many people have this crazy idea of God as a violent, vengeful, vindictive force, rather than one of peace, love, goodness and forgiveness, Its a real problem throughout the world.

If you have read the Torah, he is all out for that and not peaceful and good and before you give me the Jesus came and so its okay argument he condoned slavery so was not that perfect how can a just god condone in the whole Bible slavery and in the OT horrors we rightfully would have hung a Nazi for enforced slavery and mass genocide of those who any rational human being would call innocent - little children and slaves who cannot refuse their masters or mistresses wishes. Its not hard: An all powerful and therefore just god, whose morals are by its nature perfect, must act in a manner superior by far to mortals so would command followers to not act like heathens who committed genocide, slavery and other grave inhuman actions and would have the power to do so. But not doing so it demonstrates its not those things or good or peaceful. So he could issue such orders to do horrible thing again or do them itself anytime.

You have the right idea. Dementheology worships a God that is both God and the Devil, Satan. We have been given by God commandments we are to keep. These collectively are known as the Wisdom of God. One of those rules tells us we are not to wage war, nor kill another person, even if they threaten us. We refuse to be a part of warfare. It only leads to more warfare. Plus, the people that engage in t will surely die.

So who do I believe?
Lyndon who spent at max 50 years studying the Christian Bible, or virtually the entire Christian clergy between 300 and 1900 CE whose combined total is probably in the hundreds of lifetimes?

I feel God is a destructive force in the world only in the context of Christianity. Want to believe in the Christian god, then you're almost obligated to acknowledge all the destruction he's wreaked upon his creation.

Ewwwwwww. What about the current Islamic body count that grows by the day?
