Saw this elsewhere. I remember some of it. How about you?

-in the 60's, oil will be gone in 10 years
-in the 70's, another ice age in 10 years
-in the 80's, acid rain will destroy all crops in 10 years
-in the 90's, the ozone layer will be gone in 10 years
-in 2000, ice caps will be gone in 10 years

None of that happened but the results were fear and taxes.
This is almost entirely false.

Nobody in the 60s thought oil would be gone in 10 years. If you contend othewise, show us your source.

Nobody serious in the 70s predicted an ice age in 10 years. If you contend otherwise, show us your source.

Regarding acid rain, the reason why it has not had the impact we were warned about is because legislation came in to control NOx and SOx, as a result of the warnings.

Regarding the ozone layer, the reason why it has not been destroyed is because of an unprecedented international effort to save it, via the Montreal Protocol, which resulted in legislation banning the worst ozone-damaging substances, as a result of the warnings.

Nobody in 2000 said the ice caps would be gone in ten years. However they are going, fast, as predicted.

It is pretty stupid to suggest that a prediction of potential disaster was wrong, when the prediction was in fact the cause of the remedial action that prevented it.

Speaking of secret police.... rounding up all the dissidents from communist China.

Of course, that doesn't mean it's not true. But I'm not sure how secret foriegn organizations operating in the US supports the idea of secret US police rounding up dissidents, unless I misread your point.

Having trouble with your reading comprehension??

Notice how the OP starts out "Saw this elsewhere"

Now if I saw it elsewhere, then your claim of "I made some up" is completely false wouldn't you agree?

Oh... The elsewhere...

I did add "fear" because each brought fear.
If you were quoting someone else, and did not mean to associate yourself with the statements, you should have put it in quotation marks and made that clear.

It's why I think a lot of the BS we hear today is still going to be tomorrow's BS 10 more years from now.

I don't buy all the crap people are spewing out over this and that, which includes climate change as well.
Except it is all false. Even @We Never Know is now claiming it is not what he thinks.

(Although he has given you a "like", I notice. So he speak with forked tongue, I suspect.;))

No one ever actually predicted any of that. But wheee! Wasn't it fun and easy to knock that straw man down!

6???. Not a whole nation of reds under the beds then.

You push project fear more than the British conservative party ever did
One apple will eventually spoil the whole barrel they say.

Read the CPUSA website. I do. They sound exactly as the Democrats sound now, and are definitely endorsed without nary a rebuttal or concern about it by the Democrats themselves that there are in fact a number of open socialists and communists within their ranks and active in US politics today.

There was serious concern in the past. NY was most certainly Communist central. The epicenter in the 40s. Prior to ww2 and beyond before they drew back into the woodwork.

These people are like Putin, where the desire for the glory days of Communism to make a return is alive and well and riding the coat tails of the Democrat party in the attempt to accomplish it.

Complete BS on your part.

NY has a chronic love affair with Communism with a well established history.

It's you who is scared ****less of the right.
Nope, the assault upon our rights, freedoms, democracy, etc. is currently coming from the right while you engage in fear mongering over bogeymen.

I vaguely remember much of that kind of talk back in the 70s - especially when movies like The Omega Man and Soylent Green came on the scene. And with the energy crisis of the 70s on top of that, there was a lot of gloom-and-doom talk which came to the forefront - and still seems somewhat prevalent today. I don't recall any specific predictions about being out of oil "in 10 years," but the point was driven home that the supply is finite.

Much of what was said was motivated by a desire to enjoin people to support more responsible policies.

I don't think anyone really knows when the end of the world will be. I've met those who claimed to know the exact date that the world will end, but they invariably turn out to be wrong.

Not when the states with the least economic and personal freedoms in the entire country are solely chaired and ruled by Democrats.

We've been over this more than once. You've regurgitated that site before, which considers regulation that protects workers, consumers, and the environment and holds businesses accountable as marks against freedom.

And I will post it again until the truth of the matter sinks in.

Here's what chatgpt has to say about it:

"The statements you provided are commonly cited as predictions made in the past regarding various environmental issues. However, it's important to note that these statements do not accurately represent the scientific consensus or mainstream predictions made during those time periods. Let's examine each statement:

1. "In the 60's, oil will be gone in 10 years": There were concerns about oil scarcity during the 1960s, but it was not a widely accepted prediction that oil would completely run out within 10 years. Since then, significant oil reserves have been discovered, and advancements in extraction techniques have expanded the available oil supply.

2. "In the 70's, another ice age in 10 years": While there were discussions about a potential cooling trend in the 1970s, it was not a consensus prediction that another ice age would occur within a decade. Climate scientists have long recognized the complexity of climate systems, and subsequent research has provided a more nuanced understanding of global climate patterns.

3. "In the 80's, acid rain will destroy all crops in 10 years": Acid rain was indeed a recognized environmental issue in the 1980s, primarily caused by emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. While it did cause damage to ecosystems and certain structures, the prediction that it would "destroy all crops in 10 years" is an overstatement. Acid rain remains a concern, but various emission control measures have significantly reduced its impact.

4. "In the 90's, the ozone layer will be gone in 10 years": The depletion of the ozone layer was a real concern in the 1980s and 1990s due to the release of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other ozone-depleting substances. However, the prediction that the ozone layer would be completely gone within a decade was not widely made. The Montreal Protocol, an international environmental agreement, was established in 1987 to phase out the production of ozone-depleting substances, resulting in the recovery of the ozone layer.

5. "In 2000, ice caps will be gone in 10 years": There were concerns about the melting of ice caps and glaciers in the early 2000s, particularly due to rising global temperatures. However, the prediction that the ice caps would completely disappear within a decade was not a mainstream scientific consensus. While Arctic sea ice has experienced significant decline, it has not completely disappeared, and ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are still present."

In summary, the statements you provided are exaggerated or misrepresentations of the concerns and predictions made during those time periods. It is essential to rely on accurate scientific information and the consensus of experts when evaluating environmental issues."

Seems AI will be handy for filtering out BS that should've been left on Facebook where it was copied and pasted from.
Assuming the ChatGTP/AI is correct, it doesn’t change the perception that despite scientific consensus to the contrary, the media and politicians used these “facts” and hyperbole to promote fear for political and/or financial gain.

So you say the American right cannot cope with a few communists (or immigrants for that matter)?

I thought America was better than that

Give us a realistic senario, step by step, how Soviet style communism could take hold in the U.S. Btw, why haven't any European countries become communist? Most of them are more liberal/left than the U.S. yet have more freedom and a higher standard of living than us.

I'm having fun too.

That's insane that you think "The Competitive Enterprise Institute" isn't a paid corporate shill and that it's "Center for Energy and Environment" has any other agenda but to slander any science related to environmental protection. The fact you are willing to be this ignorant of your sources totally discredits anything you post.
