How come porn stars never seem to get aids or infections anymore?

The current crop of porn stars i mean. I am not talking about the 70s here. Back in the days it seemed a lot more prevalent then now. Now you might hear about some HIV outbreak scandal maybe once every 8-10 years and some of these guys like Lexington Steele have been on the go for like 15 years and never got anything serious. You don't hear about any of these new age social media female porn stars contracting herpes or syphilis. No signs are visible on their genitalia of infections such as marks or scars or rashes either.

Remember we are in the age of information and everyone's personal and private business is on show all over social media, so there's just no way that all these people are privately sitting on a HIV diagnosis or are flooded with STD's. Something somewhere would have crept out.

So, is the industry just super safe now compared to what it was? Are they tested more regularly and thoroughly now? It really seems like the risk of HIV and infections and disease is exaggerated somewhat when it comes to the modern day sex industry.

Where do you get data on this?

It's likely a work safety issue. Last time there was a case on the news, I think a decade ago, it was said that they do regular testing for STDs. I can only imagine that the standards have gotten stricter since, like they have in pretty much everything from sports to building houses.

I've heard they are tested weekly? And carry a card as proof they are STD free. Which is a requirement for working at least in Calif.

Is there still money in that industry? Maybe they have stopped creating new content?

Here is some information about it This Is How Porn Stars Avoid STDs When Having Unprotected Sex

The reason is simple (so, i answer your question): adult performers (well, the majority, at least) get regularly tested (up to twice a month on average, for me, plus rapid HIV test on site right before shooting, to discourage tests forgery) against STDs and therefore when performing with other performers they have a higher (although not infallible) level of knowledge over the possibility to get infected with STDs than the average person who don’t normally know the health status of their partners in advance.

I assume they get tested a lot more frequently than other professions.

Cal/OSHA requires employers in the adult film industry to provide and ensure the use of condoms and implement other measures to protect employees from sexually transmitted infections

Safety in the Adult Film Industry

There were a lot of breakouts which is always a risk in any type of profession involving being around body fluids. I dont see how porn stars are any different in a increase risk. If anything, those of us who are with multiple people probably dont get a regular STD test for every few people they are with. Just depends on the tests and type of film involved.

Yeah. I read just now about california checking often. It didnt mention other states so far I know. Many professions carry IDs so I wouldnt be surprised one has it and need to renew it every six months or a year. Nurses and doctors most likely more since they are at risk of higher and more different diseases. Im sure porn stars have vacation leave sometimes.

I think there was something a few years ago. Some male porn star doing stuff in Brazil without protection (which is the norm there due to too many infected) and then filming back in the US without protection.
Scared some female stars away as far as I remember.

Testing and condoms. I'm sure STDs besides HIV are very common among straight porn actors because they rarely use condoms. As for gay porn, I'm sure the ones who bareback such as with Treasure Island Media, mostly have HIV already at that point. But outside of barebacking fetish porn, condom using for anal sex is the norm for gay porn.

I wonder if it is just not considered news any longer. Such infections are to be expected with excessive activity. But HIV is no longer a death sentence, like it used to be. I am sure that if a pornstar gets diagnosed with it and the results are made public that it is the death of his or her porn career, but at least the star won't die in a few years.

That's true. It's also harder to catch it thanks to PrEP (the Truvada pill).

Condoms are also the norm for porn with trans women and trans men in it. It's just cis hetero porn where they mostly think they don't need condoms, it seems.
