I am currently 39 and will turn 40 in January

Today I have noticed a grey hair, actually more of a white hair, on my beard

The first such hair I have ever grown

I don't know why I didn't spot it sooner

I am feeling very middle-aged right now.....

A white beard hair is most certainly a sign of middle age.....

Although they say, "life begins at 40"

It would be cool if it does and I hope it will

Congratulations on still having hair. Grey ones can justifiably be regarded as emblems of distinction.

40 is quite a significant milestone in life, I think. I have 21 years on you, and looking back at those years, they've all been a blessing, even the toughest ones to live through at the time.

At 68, I am at the place of just thanking God for ANY color of hair. :D
Thank you, but I don't have any on top, not anymore!

Oops! You have me beat! Well, they say that some people have beautiful heads and others have to cover it with hair

Got my first grey at around 15 years of age, so don't stress too much.
I'm almost 48 now, and have more salt than pepper these days. But life has been good in my 40s (albeit pretty difficult right at the moment).

52 and not a grey hair in sight, my hairdresser does a wonderful job dyeing everything back to my natural colour

I got my first grey in my 20s... you can't see it under all the blue, though.

My dad's hair was totally white by 35. I was hoping that would happen to me; white hair would make a really brilliant blue when dyed over. No such luck...

Many people get grey hair when they are middle-aged. In the UK the average life expectancy is 79.5 which means you are middle-aged.

I got my first grey hair at about age 20. It's more genetics than age.

No, that's " The pain begins at 40."
By the time you hit 50 everything hurts, at 55 it just hurts more.

A friend of mine was 80% grey headed at 30. So was his sister and of course their mom as well.
Mom was grey (white) very young, like me, but my Dad wasn't even that grey when he passed, at 89. His hair was an unusual case, as he was very red-headed early in life, then changed to black rather than grey, and then slowly greyed.
