I've been there. I would happily live in Cuba for a few years to study Spanish and Cuban music, but my heart is too Canadian not to come back. It's not that bad. The booming black market in everything from cigars to restaurants gives the place an anarchic flavour I really enjoyed. Everybody's got some kind of scheme going.

Black market...in a socialist paradise? Sounds good to me! You Canucks are better at free markets than we are now anyway....
...at least according to the Wall St Journal & The Heritage Foundation. You guys have any designs on conquering us?

I have little love for Castro since my family was part of those kicked out with Batista, but this is very classy. I'm not incredibly shocked that Cuba is more ahead in civil rights than America.

It might be fair to note that Cuba lacked many a civil right, and that is was arguably necessary until land from American corporations could be reprimanded and a defense built up to economic imperialism. It is an unfortunate scenario that wage slavery, mass exploitation of workers and political violence preceded Castro and no one has ever had any real rights in Cuba even when America practically owned it.

I find it hilarious that any event that happens, anywhere in the world, whether America is involved or not, instantly turns into an opportunity to badmouth the US.

It is hilarious really, that you can go to nearly anywhere on the world and find America involved.

Well you outnumber us ten to one and have guns and nukes, so we will have to be satisfied with kicking your star-spangled butts at hockey. For now.

You don't even want to know what the market was like pre-Castro.

Don't forget poutine & pemmican....we'd not be able to stand against those threats.
Besides, you only get lucky in hockey....even Detroit has at times whopped yer best.
