Changed my opinion on Obama's chance of winning

It would appear that you have raised a group of kids that recognize their civic duty. I am elated that they all take their right to vote as a responsibility that they will exercise. I hope that it stays with them throughout their lives.

The fact that they are voting for Obama (en bloc) is a bonus (at least, it is to me).

You should be proud.

Thank you TVOR :)..

Yes I am proud of them..and impressed..and I feel the same..if they did their homework and had chosen McCain I would still be very proud of them for realizing their vote is important...

Bookies are consistently the most accurate predictors, more accurate than any poll or set of polls. (for a number of reasons, some very interesting, but basically because they're livelihood depends on it.) Here's a link to recent odds. The race is down to the final two democratic and republic candidates and if you were thinking about betting on John McCain, now is the best time ever as his odds dropped considerably. LooseLines Sportsbook posts the best odds on Senator John McCain with +770 odds (a $100 wager pays out $770) and Sportsbook.com posts the best odds for Senator Barack Obama at -700 odds (a $700 wager pays out $100)!

That's too funny Autodidact - I never even thought of that!

From the polls I've seen, McCain would have to win all of the toss-up states as well as two blue states in order to win, and I don't see how that is possible. Young people and minorities are coming out in droves. Those two groups are particularly inspired this year. Those are also the people who are less likely to be included in the polls (cell phone effect, etc.).

"Undecided voters are less educated, less affluent, and somewhat more likely to be female than the average voter."

This is exactly why I hurried up and made up my mind about who to vote for; so I'd be less likely to be female.

I don't think there's any question that Obama enjoys the popular majority, but, then, so did Al Gore.

The question is, will Republican tampering with the voter rolls, wait times, voting machines and the vote count be robust enough to carry the election?

The NY Times reports that, in some regions, 20% of registered voters have already been, unbeknownst to them, scrubbed from the rolls.
In many places even early voters are spending hours in line.
There have already been reports of touch-screen machines switching votes, onscreen, before the very eyes of the voters.
This is my concern too.

We've already heard of dirty tactics such as a flier in Virginia telling people that due to the expected high turnout, Republicans vote on the 4th and Democrats vote on the 5th.

Students at Virgina Tech and other colleges were told that if they voted they risked losing their scholarship money, or that if they had unpaid parking tickets, the police would be there to arrest them.

It's really amazing the slimy levels to which these people will stoop to try to steal another election.

But at least this year we have thousands of volunteer lawyers looking out for our rights. :)

Dopp, my daughter's classroom vote supports your position. The vote was 15-2 for Obama.

There was an article this morning on how the largest church in Colorado, which normally would be fired up about voting Republican, is politically demoralized this year.

That's just the kind of sound reasoning that leads to good, solid decisions. I wonder how close you came to actually growing a pair of ovaries?

That's probably Ted Haggard's church. It's been a rough couple of years for them. At least McCain hasn't been caught snorting meth with a male prostitute.

Good guess. It is indeed his old church. The New Life Church.

Poor Haggard. If only he could be honest with himself he'd be a much happier and sane person.

It's a shame too, because he was really good on environmental issues.

Congratulations, Doppel. From what I gather through Political Dashboard - 2008 Presidential Election on Yahoo! News it is indeed being a landslide :)

Update: on second thought, it is really very much a function of which States reported already. Still, things look very promising :)

Second update: forget it, it's a landslide alright :) - 324 vs 124 votes at this moment. 270 votes would be enough to elect Obama. It's over except for the exact tallies :)
