Bird Obsession

I've been obsessed with birds for as long as I can remember. I used to keep and breed various types of finches, parrots and poultry but these days I only try and photograph them.

These are Eastern Rosella's, fairly common where I live and a frequent visitor to the back yard. This pair were cooling off in my bird bath.

Thanks for sharing those photos. I am also a bird lover. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is put food and water out for the many, many birds we have coming on on our decks, front and back. There are none so colorful as your photos though. You must live somewhere tropical.... :D

It's only 14 Celsius here today so not very tropical at the moment :)

I don't understand how you can have banana trees where you live.

Lots of banana trees around here, they don't do very well, at least mine don't, the fruit never seems to ripen but the birds and bats love them otherwise I'd dig them out as they're ugly and a bit of a pest.

Good reason to keep those trees then. We have been overtaken by trees, they grow tall here, and now they are blocking our lake view, but we let them stand because the birds and the raccoons and the squirrels like them. :)

What's in my backyard.......?

King Parrots are cheeky...if you feed them they come each day and call you for food.
They bring their kids and relatives too.

Magpies...I love to hear them sing duets.

Sulphur Crested Cockatoos.

If you start, these guys will make you pay if you don't continue to feed them.
They have been known to destroy all the woodwork on houses if there is no food. Better not to start.

Galahs are funny to watch. Usually in pairs, they feed on my front lawn.

These noisy parrots gather in flocks and love the nectar in native flowers. They usually arrive when my Mum wants to take a nap.

Fairy Wrens are so tiny. This little guy has a harem of lovely ladies...

So cute with a sweet little sound.

Kookaburras are better than roosters for waking you up in the morning.

These Black Cockatoos have the most mournful cry.....

Eastern Yellow Robin. Like all Australian Robins they are not related to European or American Robins. Very friendly and inquisitive birds, if there's one around I just sit still and most time they will come close to check me out.
