Comic book nonsense. All locusts swarm and travel considerable distances, which is their defining characteristic.
"Of the 5,000 species of grasshoppers in the world, 9 in particular are truly remarkable. These are the legendary migrating locusts, which form incredibly massive swarms---enough to darken the sky. In 1955 a swarm in Morocco measured 155 miles long and 12 miles wide. . . ."
Not only do they develop huge swarms, but all are capable of traveling tremendous distances. In 1952 one horde flew 3,000 miles from Africa to India. "

We have June bugs here where I live. Every June, they do the same thing -It's part of their cycle of life.
...But hundreds of generations of locusts live out their entire lives without mutating into "gregarious" locusts. They have to be triggered for that to happen, as they are typically solitary creatures according to science.
