Hello and welcome to RF, new members!

This thread is for you to ask the mods anything about RF. This can include questions about the rules, the forum history, or the different forums in general.

A note for all members: Please keep in mind that only staff members may answer questions in this thread. Any answers by non-staff members will be deleted.

Thank you,

Debater Slayer, on behalf of the RF staff.

Hi. I joined primarily to discuss Christian theology. Upon visiting your Christian forums I see that I am unable to create a post. What must I do, please? Thank you.

Hello and welcome to RF!

Go to your profile by clicking the first icon (from the left) on the top-right corner of the screen. From the drop-down menu, select "Account details." Scroll down to "DIR Forum Access" and check the boxes for a maximum of three DIRs with which you identify.

The Christianity DIR and its sub-DIRs are in the Abrahamic Religions DIR, so check the box for the Abrahamic Religions DIR and wait about an hour or two for the system to register the changes. You will then be able to post in the Christianity DIR.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any more questions.

Why am I prohibited from posting in the Political Discussions forum?
The thread in question isn't in a sub-forum that I don't belong to.

I also can't post there, which means it's probably a permissions bug. I'll kick it upstairs and see if we can figure out why.

Hi Debater.

Am I permitted to post in other DR forums? For example I’m a Baha’i but I believe in Abrahamic and Dharmic religions not just Baha’i.

You can post in the general Abrahamic DIR, but none of the Christian, Muslim, or Judaism DIRs. You may not post in the Dharmic DIR.

I've been in and out so I might of missed the advisory, but are Albums gone. I used to have photo Albums on the site and I can no longer find them. I was planing on updating some. It was just a fun thing to share now and again with others, I have copies of all the photos I published so I don't need them dug up.

Why am I prohibited from posting in the Political Discussions forum?
The thread in question isn't in a sub-forum that I don't belong to.

It has to do with forum permissions. I went into detail about the issue in a previous post:

I just checked the admin CP, and it appears that the issue has to do with inheritance of forum permissions. If all members in the "registered" user group are allowed to post in the Political World, all of that forum's sub-forums inherit this, which means that a member of, say, "Socialist Only" will then have the ability to post in "Capitalist Only," and vice versa, because both of them are in the "registered" user group.

I'm not sure how to work around this, since the only solution I can think of right now is to set the permissions for each sub-forum individually instead of having them inherited from the Political World. This would be a major hassle and may contain unforeseen problems in turn, though, because it would entail manually setting up the permissions of every single user group for every single sub-forum of the Political World.

There are 35 user groups, 19 permission settings for each forum, and seven "Only" sections in the Political World. This means we would have to configure 35 x 19 x 7 = 4,655 manual settings in total. That would be an utter and unworkable nightmare, so I'm thinking about potential alternatives right now.

I'm not sure what the solution could be, though. Given the scope of the problem, it may be something we will have to leave for the owners to fix so that we don't risk software instability.

There are posters successfully posting in Political World.
How do they qualify for it?

Hi Staff,

Enjoying the forum and hope to post more,.....would you say this forum is here for the long haul? Just curious since i was a member of a few small forums where some drama ensued and some of my old threads and posts got deleted,.....I suspect from the history of this forum and its devotion and consistency to continue, it plans to be here for years to come? Whats your hope and prognosis on this query? Thanks! :)
