In 9 bce Arminius, Roman name of a Germanic Prince, united the Germanic Tribes in a ambush of Varus. Varus led 3 Legions some 15000 men. The Romans had made Arminius a Roman and given him time to "acclimatize" to Rome to make the conquest easier. So, Varus actually followed Arminius' instructions to help put down a "rebellion". To get to the rebellion, Varus needed to march his men single file along the back trails.
Three days later Varus sent his head to Augustus Caesar. Three Legions had been totally annihilated.

I know very little about the eschatology of Judaism and I assumed from your remarks that you are well informed in the subject.. I have heard the usual clap trap that Jews will rule the world from Jerusalem and the gentiles will be their slaves... I dismiss that crap as either idiocy or anti-Semitism.

I am astonished at the survival of Israel since 1950, against overwhelming enemies. I'm 72 and very different so they would not have me, but I wish I could go there and fight for them.
