If I was to guesstimate, it may be a product of culture or style. Anime has close style decisions similar to Disney. It is sort of like asking "why do all Japanese anime characters have big eyes instead of almond-shaped eyes?" Though most of the early Disney animation is absent of black characters (with the exception of the controversial and sterotypical renditions of "SONG OF THE SOUTH") there was thought to be a reason for it at the time. Anime (I believe) has taken steps to recognize black characters through their successful (albeit still contoversial) THE BOONDOCKS series.

I think the way anime characters look might be a critique of westerners, in terms of how we look to asians. Big eyes, loud and boysterous, and overtly sexual. :angel2:

The loudness is a possibility, but from watching Heroes I have learned how loud and hyper Asians can be.

Except that anime characters are usually supposed to be Japanese, not American. And in many anime, the american characters are indistinguishable from the Japanese ones.

The big eyes come from Disney, actually. Osamu Tezuka, the "God of Manga," was heavily influenced by Disney's style, and incorporated the large round heads and large, expressive eyes into his designs.

Actually Japanese culture is far, far more sexual than western culture. Some of thier kids shows are borderline pornographic. Also, IIRC, I've read that the Japanese find Caucasian features attractive and desirable.

I think FH touched a key issue here, anime expresses the desirable ideal physique as it is perceived by many in Asia. many Caucasian features are desirable and even applied through operations (round eyes) in many progressive parts of modern Asia.

Hmm... I never thought that they mostly were... I've seen Asian, African American, and Caucasian anime characters. A lot of them are white though.

It would explain why a lot of the male heroes are blond(ish) . . .
I think it's also telling that the most powerful fighters are blonde with green eyes
And Full Metal Alchemist ^ even took place in Germany
And why the female heroes tend to have large breasts.
That's Tsunade from Naruto. It's weird. Pics out there either have only her face, only her boobs, or are hentai . . .
