If you press alt 0162 you'll get ¢.
0n Android just pressing and holding the money key ($, £, €, ¥ depends on keyboard) should pop up ¢ as one of its alternative characters
In Dos alt 255 for a file name made the directory listing for that file a dot. Alt 255 at the beginning of a filename followed by text didnt show the invisible first character so unless you knew then the file could not be accessed.
