A Project For Mr Aluminum Trailer

I'm modifying 6 winches to mount permanently just inside
the driver side fender. instead of using 2 1/2" holes, I'm
embiggening one to 5/8" diameter to use in my 5/8-11
tapped holes in anchor rails. They shouldn't be in the way,
but they're removable by just unscrewing 1 bolt.

Carbide cutters in die grinders are faster than filing.
But dang....the chips are small & sharp sharp sharp.
I came in to pull splinters & get gloves.
Lo!
A dozen alerts.

Some progress on Mr Aluminum trailer....
- Sidekit was oredered on Tuesday. Aluminum is in short supply,
so I hope I get those parts by early October for an Oct 12 departure.
- Toolbox holding L-track anchors & wrenches.
It was hard to find one big enuf yet short enuf to fit in the tongue tray.
- Lashing winches are mounted, & can be easily moved.
- Stakes for over the fenders are made.

Tomorrow I cut the panels for over the fenders.
They're about 48" x 83". I'm considering making them without
longitudinal stiffeners because because other components will
align them in the middle. This saves weight & work.
I'm hoping to keep the weight under 3000#.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I hate covering machinery with tarpaulins (aka tarps).
They're heavy, stiff, & really demand 2 people to handle'm.
And the machines need padding to protect tarps from sharp projections.
It all takes much time, & it seldom works out well.
What to do...what do do?
Behold !!!!!
If you only knew what a pain in the *** those things are. ..

Those roll over tarps work well at first then they start wearing out.

Tarping a load with many fragile pointy features is no pickanick
either. A trucker & fellow engine guy agrees its the best system
for my purpose. Others....connestoga, curtainside, etc aren't
adaptable to my trailer & loads. And enclosed trailers (aside
from being spendy) don't have crane or side forklift access.

Still very tired from an assembly line of vaccinations,
I managed to enjoy warm sunny weather while
making progress on supporting the fender panels.
