40,000 New Yorkers Pay 50%+ of the city's taxes!

Out of 9 million New Yorkers 40,000 pay more than half of the taxes!

How can you argue that wealth redistribution; capping executive pay, and eliminating bonuses would be good for the city of New York and the nation!?

Obama just doesn't know what he's talking about; apparently neither does any Democrat.

You really have a gift, Investocracy.

Can you get us some details on the amount of crime committed by those New Yorkers that don't vote Republican?

Possibly a graphic that shows the illegal aliens that shamelessly consume the tax dollars that the government steals from the hardworking conservatives?

Maybe some statistics that show how AIDS is spread from the atheisttic gay population of NYC to the good Christians?

No offense, but given your track record I will need something other than your word on the first sentence.
Got any credible sources to site?

You know, when I lived in a rental apartment, I didn't pay property tax directly; my landlord paid the city or town and that cost to the landlord was passed along to me as part of my rent. Why do I get the feeling that something like this is the explanation for what you describe?

Done here.
I always find it amusing that right-wing types celebrate the unequal distribution of wealth, but manage to affect dismay and indignation at the unequal distribution of the tax burden.

Can you imagine what would happen if these 40,000 people decided to take a year off?

Which would mean they would owe no taxes and New York would be in big trouble. You do realize that the people who are being demonised are the precise people who have the power to fix the problem. Government does not run things, business people do.

New York City includes Manhattan, one of the wealthiest cities in the world, a major world financial and commercial hub, and hosts the largest number of corporate headquarters in the nation ,

and the Bronx where the 16th Congressional District is located.

The territory now within the 16th Congressional District was, in 2000, the poorest of the nation's 435 present Congressional Districts with 42.2% of its residents below the poverty line

I think the statistics are fairly meaningless when taken in context.

I was thinking something similar. Since property taxes are (generally) proportional to property value, another way to put the OP would be "did you know that the top 40,000 property owners in New York City own 50% of the dollar value of all the properties in the city?"

If I owned every single dwelling home in my city.I would imagine I would be paying 100% of the property taxes in my city for single dwelling homes. But I also imagine I would rent those homes out.And roll into the rent at least in part that tax burden. But on paper techinically it would show I and I alone had paid 100% of it.

Who in there right mind though would "take a year off" anyway? What purpose would it serve those people?

Its like saying..I'de rather make nothing than something.

If we make 100,000 a year. And have to pay 30,0000 in taxes.I should say..thats not fair! So and so only had to pay 3,000 taxes because they only made 20,000.Why should I have to pay 10X more than them just because Im more succesful? Why am I being punished for success?

I know how I'll fix it..Instead of pocketing 70,000 next year ..I'll pocket NOTHING !!!then I will pay ZERO in taxes!!! HA HA HA!!!!

I thought business men were supposed to have business sense?

What's your point? Those 40,000 people probably account for at least half of the wealth in NYC, too.

Just imagine if people this stupid ran a country.

I imagine they'd slash taxes on the wealthy, allow hyperinflation of housing prices and irresponsible lending resulting in the total collapse of the global economy, preside over the largest expansion of government spending and domestic powers in history, rack up trillions of dollars in debt in under a decade, start a few ridiculous privatized wars for the benefit of their corporate friends, spend so much public money on propaganda they end up brainwashing themselves, ruin the country's international reputation, stymie international efforts to control climate change, permanently (we hope) unseat that country from it's place at the head of the global table, and on their way out the door shift an additional trillion dollars of public money into the pockets of their wealthy banker friends. :p

And what exactly, is the chances that even half of these people would decide to take a year off?

Government does not run things, business people do.
Which pretty much ensures that the working class will never get ahead, while the rich will continue to horde more money than anyone ever needs throughout an entire life time. Which also explains how a president who has been accused of being socialist won the election. It's because socialism, god forbid, tends to put the working class first, rather than in the toilet.
