Con men on dating sites

There are a lot of con men on dating sites and so far, there are two con men who tried to con me into sending them money, William and Alan. There is a third man named Thomas who is possibly a con man.

To try to make my long story on the other thread shorter, the William saw my profile on a Baha’i dating site and he contacted me there and our communication continued via long e-mails and later texts for about three months. I was suspicious when he first asked me for a loan but I wrote it off to poor manners. When he asked me for money again and I still did not realize he was a con man. I simply thought he was desperate and emotionally out of control. All this time I thought he was a Baha’i, so that was the reason I continued to have hope for a real relationship that would eventually lead to marriage.

I finally decided to try to find out if he was who he claimed to be or not, and I found out from the Baha’i locator service that there are no Baha’is in the little town where he said he lived or anywhere near that town. I also sent an e-mail to the Baha’i dating site manager and the site manager e-mailed me back saying he knows of this man and he has asked other women for money and he has been banned from their site. It was at this point that I realized he must be a con man, and not a Baha’i looking for a relationship.

My communication with Alan via texts went on for only a week before he asked for money and I realized he was a con man, and as soon as I told him he would never get any money from me, he never texted me again.

I am still in contact with the third man, Thomas, and I plan to tell him of my suspicions given what happened to me with the other two men.

I am still getting short texts from William once in a while and I am responding to them. There is a part of me who wants to keep talking to him even though I know he is a con man, and I want know his true identity even though I know he will never tell me. I also think there is a subconscious part of me who wants him to be who I thought he was so I can continue with my fantasy, although on a conscious level I know that is not possible.

But why is he still texting me, that is the question. Today all he said was “Hello” and I answered “Hello, what’s up?”

Why would he still think that is possible after all the times I told him I will never give him any money?

I would consider it possible if I were him. You haven't cut him off. He has nothing to lose trying to work you for as long as you let him. You imply an ongoing interest in him. Why should he believe you? How many times do you suppose he's been at this juncture, persisted, and gotten a payoff? How many women do you think he's playing at once now? Probably every woman he can.

He's a con man. He'll never stop trying. He's trying to hook you, don't communicate with him!
But it's fun and what harm can it do? He can't make me give him any money. He already tried really hard over and over again and he fell flat on his face every time.

Maybe he thinks he is smarter than I am so he can hook me eventually, but he's not going to. Nobody has or ever will get into my bank account or my assets, even the man I might marry. I told him at the outset of our communication that all my money and assets would always remain separate from his if I married him. Nobody can make me sign it over.

The women that get hooked by these con men are the women who need love so badly they will do anything for it. I am not one of those women. I do not even want love, that is not why I want to get married. I told him that all I want is someone to help me with the house and cats but he just kept sending me love songs.

Of course he is playing more than one woman and maybe at a certain juncture some of those women will give in, but those woman are not like me. Even before I knew he was a con man I was not going to give him any money. I told him that and I told him why. I would never give money to a man I never met, NEVER. I do not understand how anyone could be that stupid, but I guess some women are desperate for love.

He can believe whatever he wants to believe but he is wrong if he still thinks there is a possibility of getting any money from me. I know he is wrong, and that is the fun part of all this.

Could you loan me some money?

He has nothing to lose. If anything, the fact you keep talking to him means to him that he might eventually convince you.
But the converse is also true. I have nothing to lose since he cannot make me give him any money.

I will probably be turning all his communications over to the FBI soon but till then I am going to have some fun.
God knows I need some fun in my life.

As you know I know a person called Alex on Facebook who seems to be a Baha'i who says he lives in Rwanda who has been acting very sweet to me, and I was not suspicious of him, and he dropped that he was in a bad way after he was sweet to me for months. I told him I was not in a position to support him because I was in debt. Then he wanted only $65 to help with his tomatoes, and my wife Sara controls our purse strings, and I asked that we find some way to get him $65. She was immediately convinced that he was a con man. I didn't believe that, then I reflected that he could sell his cell-phone or whatever he connected to Facebook with. More recently, I saw something sinister about him only communicating with me only on Messenger which is private, not on his profile where others could see what he was saying to me.

I said to him, couldn't he sell whatever he connected to Facebook with. He said he didn't have a smart phone, so that wouldn't work, or something to that effect. He is still communicating to me still being sweet despite getting nothing from me.

I am relectant to cut off communication, to block him on Facebook, because I don't want to hurt his feelings, even though I am quite suspicious. This was not accompanied by raising a false hope in me like with you, so I don't have any hopes dashed. I don't have any bad feelings towards him, so that makes it harder to cut myself off from him. I think what I'll do is let him send messages to me and not reply to him any more, so the severance won't be abrupt.

Let him communicate with you and say nothing to him back is my suggestion. After a while he'll stop communicating. The communication you get from him reminds you that he betrayed your trust.

He can believe whatever he wants to believe but he is wrong if he still thinks there is a possibility of getting any money from me. I know he is wrong, and that is the fun part of all this.
Have you considered that you are making fun at his expense, to inflict hurt on him back.

Of course he would not keep texting me if I did not respond to his texts.
No, I don't think it is reminding me of what happened. That's over.
