What is it that make paranormale experiences so exciting to many people

What do you think is the reason so many people get facinated by paranormale stories or tales?

What is a ghost in your understanding?

Is there any reason to be scared of the paranormale?

This is going to sound a bit... I don't know... but it's what is on my mind at the present moment.

Sometimes it feels like the appeal of the "paranormal" comes from people not having enough magic and mysticism in their religion. And to my mind, it's a poor substitute for the experiential power of mystery religions and magical practice. The paranormal lacks metaphysical or religious context and feels... empty and vacuous compared to the stuff that's already part of my religious traditions. Why bother with "ghosts" for example when ancestor work is already part of what I do, and with a much deeper and more meaningful context?

It wouldn't surprise me if the paranormal appeals largely to those whose religious traditions have strangled out the mystery religion and mystical or magical elements from themselves. They've got it nowhere in their religion, so gotta get it somewhere, maybe? I dunno. No doubt there's been some academics on the topic who have far wiser words on it than me. I just know the longer I've been Pagan the more I find the "paranormal" baffling as a concept. All that stuff is just "normal" to me and part of my way of life in ways that the "paranormal" seems to be missing the mark on, for lack of a better way of putting it. :disrelieved:

What do you think is the reason so many people get facinated by paranormale stories or tales?

Personally, I think the reason so many people are fascinated by the paranormal is either because they're curious to know what will happen to them and to others after death, or because they have had a personal paranormal experience(s) themselves, and they are genuinely seeking answers to make sense of this life-changing experience. The latter applies to me. It's the reason why I started.

In modern society, it is now increasingly common to accept the reality of ghosts and other paranormal phenomena. Over the past twenty-plus years, the negative stigma associated with believing in the paranormal has considerably diminished. According to my observations and experience as a medium, a paranormal investigator, and a participant in the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), both UFO and ghost sightings are increasing at an impressive rate. I've done a lot of studying on this trend and found that the statistics I obtained online supported what I believed to be true. I learned the following information from my research; however, I've decided to copy what I posted in another related thread rather than starting from scratch. If you have any questions, you can send me a PM.

According to a survey from October 2021, 63 percent of the participants (2,000 people aged 21 and over) believe in the paranormal in some form. The people surveyed said the most common unexplained beings they believe exist include ghosts (57%), aliens (39%), and Bigfoot (27%). A third (35%) of the people surveyed said they have felt an unexplained presence in their home, prompting them to believe that they’re being haunted. Here is the information about the survey: "Paranormal Nation: Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe in ghosts or aliens." As indicated by these articles, belief in the paranormal has gained ground over the last twenty-plus years.

What is a ghost in your understanding?

Based on my understanding, ghosts are earthbound human spirits.

Is there any reason to be scared of the paranormale?

The answer is yes and no. Yes, there are reasons to be afraid of the spirits that you encounter if you provoke them and make them angry; if they are already angry and they lash out at you and hurt you; or if the spirits you encounter are non-human entities. And the answer is also no, and I say this as a medium with fifteen years of experience. I've interacted and communicated with more human spirits than I can recall, and I've traveled the country investigating the paranormal during these years as well. And during all that time, I've only had one encounter with a human spirit that truly scared me. It was a very rare occurrence that was inadvertently my fault.

The same why people believe in gods and miracles. It is the wishful thinking that, maybe, somehow, there are easier ways to get what they want than by working.
Or, similar to that, that they are somehow "special" and don't have to go the hard ways others have to go.

I have no idea. All I can say is that I am NOT one of them.
What is a ghost in your understanding?
I don't know and I don't want to know. The world is troubling enough without dredging up a "nether" version of it.

Only if you're foolish enough to chase after it.

I'm not afraid of bears because I don't chase after them.

It's a fascination about the unknown. Things that cannot be explained that tingle one's evolved Instincts and heightened imagination.

To me the paranormal is absolutely fascinating as we so tend to think that this naturally acting physical world around us is all there is.

The paranormal tells me this universe is so much deeper and interesting. What is this 'more'? Fascinating stuff to me.

There are multiple things we lump under the term 'ghost'. One popular type is a deceased human with unsettled business trying to hang close to the physical plane.

Actually, there are malevolent things in the non-physical planes too. Those spiritually wise tell us not to dabble with things like a Ouija board.

Same as what religious people find in religion then:)
Essentially. Yes.

Starting with a conclusion and trying to find pieces to establish that conclusion is a daunting endeavor to say at the least.

I prefer starting with a mystery and forgo conclusions until things are factually established in that order.
