The viable alternative system is that we strive for collective morality. I think it’s possible for humans to one day be moral enough in which an anarchist society could be sustained. So the question is how do we get here! As a Christian, I’m biased and think society needs to turn to Jesus for this to happen.
Also, individualism is the viable solution we can take in our modern times. Proper anarchists (not me) can sustain themselves. Have their own land, water supply, food growing, stuff like that.

That's great. As soon as we we strive and achieve this state of collective morality we can dismantle the current system we have and implement this better alternative system. But what positive gains do you see in dismantling the current system we have when society is not yet in a position to be able to implement this alternative system?

Let's say that our current system of government is an airplane in flight. It's a flawed airplane, so the flight is very rough, but it does manage to keep us in the air. You claim that if we can ever manage to perfect a certain technology we could conceivably build a much better airplane with virtually no flaws that would ensure a smooth turbulence free flight. But instead of waiting until we perfect the needed technology, you immediately begin dismantling the airplane that we are currently flying in. Once you've dismantled the plane to the point where it will no longer fly at all, what do you expect will happen next? Are you just hoping that as we plunge down towards a fiery death that we'll somehow managed to figure out the required technology to fix the plane before we crash and burn?

As for individualism being a viable solution, I don't see how that's possible, since the concept of individualism in which you can be an island upon yourself without a need to interact with society as a whole seems to me to be in direct conflict with the notion of a collective morality. A collective morality would have to acknowledge that we are social animals that require interaction in order to survive and that as important as individual rights might be, they always need to be tempered by what's best for the collective society as a whole. That is to say that your right to do whatever you want ends when your actions start to infringe on the rights of others.

I am an anarchist. I think statism is the most vile thing to grace this planet, and I think statists have Stockholm syndrome in relation to their government. :);):(
I wish people didn’t take government seriously. If we all laughed at the judges funny outfits instead of standing to attention for them, I think this world would be better for it.
American statists take the office of presidency most seriously. The president is their leader. That is why I think Donald Trump is the greatest president. He made a complete mockery of the office. He was a total buffoon! I would turn on the news and be laughing so hard when his petty tweets would be broadcasted. He made a joke of the highest elected position in America. Generally, I saw statists embarrassed by this man. My hope is that he turns people away from statism
I hope he wins in 2024. One, it makes the news a lot more entertaining. Two, I hope he keeps desecrating the sacred office of the presidency in the eyes of statists. #Trump2024 ! #trolling?

Yeah...well...

I have no great love of government, and I'm no jingoist, but the path you're plotting won't end well for many.

At the end you may get a core group who survive and prosper, but they'll do so based on their own fitness, and that of the people they can rely on.

Those small familial groups will eventually find ways to expand. I mean...we ended up where we are through this type of process originally. Are you sure you're not just advocating a reset of the same old clock?

How are worker cooperatives anarchy? Land-O-Lakes is a cooperative [dairy] as is "Florida's Natural" [orange juice], but I certainly don't see them as being examples of "anarchy".

Anarchy means without government authority/control. Statelessness. The ideal worker cooperative would not need state enforcement. It would be capable of governing itself. A stateless system of cooperation.

I believe in limited chaos, so I would institute an official method for some legal decisions to be made by a roll of the dice. I would work to make voting outcomes uncertain and penalize most census and political polls, fining political research. I would chaotically institute randomness into the Fed. Military spending and all secret spending would also have a magic multiplier that no one controlled. Taxes too would have a magic multiplier. I would gradually phase this in and take away immediate fine control from the legislature. Instead it would have to make a best guess and then find out what the final numbers would be.

Trump is a great stick of dynamite. Much better than I ever hoped and dreamed.

The world is a very big, very complicated -- and very imminent -- place. I rather suspect that the anarchists here, if their anarchic desires came to pass, would desperately seek a way to get government back into their lives.

I'd consider Trump to be the worst President since Herbert Hoover,, because I'd like Medicare expansion, Obamacare expansion, Medicaid expansion, Child Tax Credits, Green Energy Tax Credits, Renewable Energy development programs, Tuition-Free College, Universal Pre-Kindergarten schooling, Child Care Assistance, Elderly Care Assistance, and paid family leave. I'm confident our nation's standard of living will be improved by expanding our nation's social safety net, improving accessibility to higher education, and creating green renewable energy for saving our planet against devastating climate change. I didn't like Trump opposing the aforementioned expansion of government programs.

I don't know that people take the office of presidency that seriously. The President of the United States is one of the most heavily satirized and lampooned individuals there ever was - and it really doesn't matter who it is. People take the government itself somewhat seriously, as they can seriously mess with someone's life if they wanted to. They have a huge military force, an extensive intelligence network, and virtually unlimited resources that the average individual would be powerless against them. The only thing that people can hope for is that the people who work in government are honorable enough to follow the Constitution they've sworn to uphold. But even then, there are no real 100% guarantees on anything.

I did think the polarization over Trump was way over the top, with one side thinking he's the Messiah, while the other side thought he was the anti-Christ. He was neither. I saw him more as a symptom of a deeper problem in U.S. politics - although it would have nothing to do with how "seriously" people take the government.

I don't think it would have much to do with statists or statism. I'm a statist, although I don't really take the U.S. government all that seriously.

There is a lot of thought put into anarcho-capitalist theory which hypothesizes on how exactly society would work in absence of a state. Most people don’t think anarchocapitalism is valid which is why they aren’t ancaps. It isn’t a lawless society, the free market is the governing force. I don’t think such a system is possible unless humans are generally moral, so perhaps we’ll always be under a state!

Yes, I think we'll always be under a state.

Any system might be considered valid, including anarcho-capitalism, but the free market would not be the governing force. As Mao put it, "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun." In the absence of government, then capitalists would become the equivalent of feudal warlords - or perhaps some kind of mobster-run government.

There have been human governments which might have had a more laissez-faire way of running things, with maybe something like a group of village elders to mediate disputes. Of course, times were much simpler when life was more agrarian and pastoral. But they didn't really last. Not because they didn't work as a political/economic system, but because they were small and weak. They were swallowed up by larger kingdoms that believed in bigger government, bigger armies and navies, and a stronger society.

I get the feeling from this post that you don't really care about statism.

So how are you an anarchist?

That was Gandhi's wish that also I share, but I'm afraid it's not realistic in today's world.

Have you read “The Market for Liberty”? I don’t remember a huge amount from it but found it rather intriguing. :)
