Many Paths???

I have often heard and read that different religions are just different paths to a supreme truth.
Is this true? Do you believe it?

Obviously there must be an ultimate truth, but do all religions show a way to this?

I do believe that. I don't believe that God would not love everyone. To me, the only truths are love, compassion, mercy, justice, hopefulness and similar. We need to learn to love ourselves and others.

We already are the ultimate truth.

It's right there , plain as day in front of your face biting your nose off everyday.
Very creative "biting your nose off everyday" ... whenever we belie this truth

Most perhaps all religions do not confine themselves to just our human existence. That is what the question is about.

I guess I don't understand then. What is "ultimate" and "truthy" about non-human existences? I mean, yes, tree existence is pretty cool, but I don't see anything ultimately truthy about it. :D

God does not love everybody. He only loves the righteous who love him. Proverbs 8:17. "I love them that love me..." SOS 1:4. "...the upright love thee". Psalm 146:8. "...the Lord loveth the righteous". We are not required to love the wicked or our enemies. There is hatred between the righteous and the wicked and it goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. Genesis 3:15. "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed..."

What is an 'ultimate truth'? Why must there be one?

Are you thinking of statements like, for example ─

The universe does not exist for a purpose.

The universe has no intention / purpose of its own.

The supernatural can't be distinguished from the imaginary.

and, of course

There are no absolute statements about reality

“Ultimate truth” might be a kind of idiom, a way of talking about living the best life we can. Like with “kick the bucket.” A person doesn’t need to know what a bucket is, to know what “kick the bucket” means.

I don't think so. Because only people who know they cannot know the secrets of the universe would know that no one as of yet can actually know the ultimate truth which is what most people mean when they say they know the way to the ultimate truth. They are claiming all knowledge of every aspect of the meaning of existence and the workings of the universe(s). It is not possible yet no matter how badly one may believe they can know it now.

Actually I withdraw that remark. I just do not see how one can deny an "ultimate truth".

It can very easily be denied when nobody can agree what it actually is.
And IMO perenialism is mostly just wishful thinking, combined with an intellectual laziness. It's not much different to a hippy saying "It's all one, man".

I believe that depends on where one is going. I am sure there are many paths that lead to Hell. I only know of one sure path to Heaven. I know of only one sure path that leads into eternal life. I know of only one sure path that saves from sin.
