Speaking in Metaphors

My son, and some others seem only able to speak about religion (Biblical) in Metaphors and it drives me bats. Recently, I've been trying to understand why it is so offensive to me. Perhaps it feels like the one using the metaphors has depersonalized the scripture, or maybe they are just showing off their Biblical knowledge?

Genesis 11:6-7 kjv

6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

I'm just being a cheeky Bible nerd.

Forgive meh!:p

The Bible IS metaphor. And is symbolic, and poetic, and iconic. Because it's difficult to speak of spiritual matters without using language as a form of artifice. "God is like ..." is the only way we have of communicating about such conceptual phenomena.

There was a lackluster STTNG episode about an alien race which
communicated only in metaphors....& those were only from their own
culture. It took an eternity (it seemed that way)....the whole show for
the Enterprise geniuses to figure out how to communicate with them.
