What's your bible?

I own a Bible, it's the New Living Translation, but I think it dumbs it down too much. I like using Bible Gateway . com because you can cross reference what all the different translations say. I also like using the interlinear study bible on Study light . com because it gives you the original greek and hebrew alongside the translated version.

I don't follow any one book about religion though. I think everything has some merit to it, whether it is a religious text or any old book off the shelf.

Life is my Bible.

Whichever one I can get my hands on.... but my conscience is first and foremost as my guide.

Peace in Christ,

King James Version, same as Soyleche mentioned and I also have a New Living Translation from my grandmother (Church of the Nazerene), and it helps me out when I have a stumbling block in my KJV version. I also have about three copies of the gnostic scriptures (all edited by different people), some of the Talmud, and a Holy Qur'an.

Oh yes, and my Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price. So....I have a lot of holy books.

I rather expected you to mention the Devil's Dictionary, considering. :sarcastic

No real favourite. The Swedish Bibel 2000 is fairly well researched by an ecumenical team, and much more reliable than for example the KJV. Disregarding the scholarly values of my 20 Bibles in almost as many languages, one I like is my parallell Latin-Hebrew OT, printed in 1740. My 1831 printing of the Swedish 1703 version is almost identical to the first Swedish Bible of 1540. It has the Apocrypha, and an interesting chronology table, which says that accoring to Luther, Christ was begotten in the year 3970 after Creation.

Are you aware of some of the incorrect translations of Hebrew found in its "Old Testament?"
I know there are, so that's why I use translations into several languages, plus try to compare them to Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia.

Psalms 22:17 reads: "Like a lion, they are at my hands and feet." The Hebrew word ki-ari (like a lion) is grammatically similar to the word "gouged." Thus Christianity reads the verse as a reference to crucifixion: "They pierced my hands and feet."

Isaiah 7:14 describing an "alma" as giving birth. The word "alma" has always meant a young woman, but Christian theologians came centuries later and translated it as "virgin."

There's two.

Are you aware that the NIV just cuts out certain Bible verses? Not to mention the fact that it's written at an 8th grade reading level (No, I'm not kidding). It's nice for a comparative paraphrase/loose translation, but the NIV is hardly the best English translation out there.
