Researching Islam

What is a good website to learn about Islam and its rituals and practices?

Well everyone has their own opinion on which to follow. Generally there is Sunni, Shia, and there millions of other fractions that don't conform to either.

As a Muslim who believes in the Messiah, for me the True Islam is that which came to eradicate all sects.

The best introduction to basics of Islam which are common to all Muslims is:

I recommend IslamAhmadiyya - Ahmadiyya Muslim Community - Al Islam Online - Official Website and The Review of Religions » Ahmadiyya Muslim Community

I would ask you to study everything using the Holy Quran as the source. Judge everything based it. As it says [

2:3] This is a perfect Book; there is no doubt in it; it is a guidance for the righteous,

Hi Mitchdolop . I think you may need to clarify whether you eager to learn Shia Islam or Sunni Islam . These are a far way different than one another .

Like all muslims. You should precise which Messiah you are talking about, he may not know.

JazakAllah.

The advent of The Holy Prophet sa is described metaphorically as the appearance of God Almighty. The Holy Prophet sa became the mirror reflecting Divine Attributes. He was Al- Abd. The Holy Quran calls him Abdullah (72:20) -- The Servant of Allah. For the latter days God in His Mercy sent us the servant of The Servant --- Ghulam Ahmad as. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani as (Ahmad as) claimed to be The Promised Messiah and Mahdi. Ahmad as claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus as of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad sa.

Salam.

When people think over the differences they become greater while in essence they are not. We and especally a non-muslim studying Islam need to focus on commonalities which form the basis of Islam. The concepts of belief such as monotheism, prophethood, hereafter and the practices such as salah/prayers, duas/supplications, sawm/fasting, hajj/pilgrimage, qurban/sacrifice, zakah-khums/charity, etc.

And here I listed a book and some short booklets intoducing the basic beliefs and practices in Islam:

http://www.religiousforums.com/foru...tures/153272-invitation-islam-short-book.html

You can refer to them, except the Imamah article in one book because it is related to shia islam, you can skip that. Good luck with your studies brother. Please be slow yet steady in your research. And when you have questions, please feel free to ask them here on the subforum and/or on intro - islamquest Blessings. ma salam :)

Honestly, the best way to learn is to actually go for classes. I would suggest learning about mainstream Islam (what majority muslims adhere to) and then look at the minorities. The problem with simply going online is that you are subject to your own understanding of what you read, and thus you can be confused and not even know it.

I would suggest learning about mainstream Islam (what majority muslims adhere to) and then look at the minorities [after being brainwashed and taught that all other schools are rubbish you should not waste time learning them!]

The above post is based on the following assumptions:
1. The sunni school; starting with its moderate sufis and ending with its militant wahhabi sect is ONE school.

2. The sword played no role in bringing the masses to the sunni doctrine.

Brainwashed? That's highly dismissive isn't it? So just because someone doesn't choose your sect they're brainwashed? It can't be because they spent some time actually learning and thinking about it?

OP didn't even say he had any intention of converting, maybe it was just to understand muslims better. In such case it would still make more sense to study what the large majority of muslims adhere to first.

I made no attempt in tainting any of the sects, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to say such things in your post.
