Does anyone know of any Buddhist-inspired, and particularly Zen-inspired, popular songs, or maybe even a little less popular? Maybe anything in the rock category?

I think a member of the Beastie Boys band was a supporter of the "Free Tibet" cause.

Other than that - they make folk music with bongos, drums, and primitive instruments.

Specifying Zen is kind of tricky. I don't know of any off the top off my head though it seems that I should. I can only think of most of the beatles canon which was inspired by hinduism and Tommy by the who which was inspired by the teachings of Meher Baba. Er OK those aren't even Buddhist but they are in the same ball park.

Check out the Buddhist musicians page on wikipedia maybe? Buddhist music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Most of them have a "citation needed though"

Might be difficult to find, if you check out the eight precepts. Specifically #7.

Hmmm...an interesting question. I don't suppose Cage is very rock n roll, but 4'33' is certainly an exercise in being present.

Don't know if it's Buddhist but Live's "Lightening Crashes" is about reincarnation, and it's in the rock category.
