More Than You'll Ever Want To Know About Me

Hello!
I am brand new here, having accidentally discovered this forum via Google while looking for information on Jainism today. This seems like the sort of place where I'd enjoy spending some time, since I am interested in religion in general, and also am a bit of a seeker of sorts.

I usually tell people that I am "between religions" if I feel safe with them, or that I'm Roman Catholic if I know it is going to start an argument that I don't want to get into.

I'm not really Catholic, though I did receive first communion in the Catholic Church. I was baptized in a Methodist church and never made it to Confirmation before my parents had yet another falling out on religion. I am comfortable with the Mass, though, and I've gone to Mass voluntarily at times during my adult life, so I figure saying I am Catholic is only a small fib that usually satisfies the questions of both the merely curious and those who have their own agenda.

I've been all over the religious map, from Christianity to Wicca to Islam and beyond. I am a panentheist and maybe a part-time animist. But I am less concerned of late with discovering any kind of capital-T Truth and more interested in finding a practice I can commit to for a long time and a community I want to be a part of.

Outside of my general and personal interest in religion, I'm a married, middle-aged mom of 6, with my oldest child having turned 21 last month and my youngest having turned 5 last month as well. This actually does figure into my religious search though-- I really wish I had brought my kids up in some kind of faith, even if they were going to reject it later... And my husband has no interest in spiritual matters. He has his own beliefs but doesn't feel the need to have an associated practice, while I feel that need acutely.

So... yeah. More than you ever wanted to know, no doubt. :p

It is great when of your own volition
that you're spiritually in transition.
Too many lack pluck
& find themselves stuck
in an unsatisfying tradition.

A revolting welcome aboard! Enjoy the ride.

Welcome to RF! How do your children currently feel about religion?

The oldest (age 21) has a lot of ideas about the nature of the Universe, etc, but doesn't have a religion and is hostile to any institutional spiritual paths. The second (19) is Pagan-ish. The third (18) is a militant atheist. The fourth (13) is Christian and likes to attend the Methodist church across the street from time to time. The fifth (11) has made up her own religion, the practice of which seems to consist entirely of meditating when she's supposed to be helping with the dishes. The little one (5) loves Jesus, Shiva, and Ganesha as figures she recognizes in art, but doesn't really have any understanding of religion as such. She likes playing with toys in the nursery of the Methodist church across the street.

I try to accommodate them all as needed, even if it means going over to the church across the street and enduring the awful, long, boring sermons. (I can find something interesting in almost everything, but the pastor over there has a special talent for bad sermons.)

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I usually tell people that I am "between religions" if I feel safe with them, or that I'm Roman Catholic if I know it is going to start an argument that I don't want to get into.

LOL! Nice technique!

Mind if I borrow that on occasion? :D

Welcome to our band of merry misfits. :tribal::tribal2:
