Why does God care if we believe in him or not?

The only reason I can think of is that by believeing in him, your giving him acknowledement for your life.

I think that is part of it - certainly, but I think it is also the recognition of how wonderful life and Nature are, how beautiful true love is........

If we focus on all the wonders of life, and thank G-d for them all, and acknowledge his obvious love for us, I think that is enough for him.:)

I don't believe it's important to believe in God, but just to believe in something. At the very least, having faith in something is good for our mental health. This doesn't mean I think atheism is wrong; beliving there is no god is something.

Quran & Sunnah
God is our creator. He created us and puts some rules to follow for our own benefits. He is our creator and He is the One who knows what will benefit us and what will hurt us. If we believe in Him it's for our own benefits and not for His, for He is self-sufficient. Our worship adds nothing to what He owns and our disbelief reduces nothing of what He owns.

Peace be with you,

Well this Sacred Hadith illustrates what I said above. Look at the highlighted part.

On the authority of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH) is that among the sayings he relates from his Lord (may He be glorified) is that He said:

O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you, O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and will not attain benefitting Me so as to benefit Me. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more that a needle decreases the sea if put into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let him finds good praise Allah and let him who finds other that blame no one but himself. It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah).

It is not mandatory or necessary to believe in GOD. You can and will exist without this belief and so will GOD.

Amen... God only provides us the grace to believe in Him so that we may begin to know Him and his love.

Belief is not the goal... love is the goal.

I have a certian amount of faith in my friends and family, because they've given me reason to have it.

So if atheism needs faith and theism needs faith by your defenition it's completely impossible to not have faith.

As a Taoist and a Vigil, my understanding of Tao is that it doesn't care what you believe, because it has no human emotions. But you will benefit by understanding the Tao, for you then can live a balanced, peaceful life.

also there is the ongoing issue of universal sovreignty .if we please God it is a slap in the face to satan who has made the challenge to God that humans only serve him because of all thegood things he gives us but that is not true because there are those who serve God out of lovefor him ( Job chapter 1 and 2)

Jehovah went on to say to Satan: ‘Have you set your heart upon my servant Job, that there is no one like him in the earth?’"—Job 1:8............also the bible tells us that satan is the ruler of this world at the moment so if we want to please God we have got to show that we love God by doing Gods will and not satans

We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one(1 john 5;19)

It is God's will to have a relationship with us through His Son, Jesus Christ, who sacrificed Himself on the cross to redeem mankind. Through his death and resurrection, we are redeemed, since He interceded on our behalf. In order to have a relationship with God, you have to believe He exists and He is who He said He is through the Word of God (Holy Bible). :)

I know of a quote of Confucious, though I am not sure it is exact so if any of you know the exact one please correct it. "I will not weep for those that do not know me, I weep for those I do not know.", now I like the way that quote is set up wether it can be applied logically to this debate I do not know, but it is a nice quote so what the heck. So I think your personal way of seeing the devine would care if you believe in him, her or both. I also think that having faith is the most important though even if it is a faith in yourself and your family and friends, if you can live that life and you are happy with it more power to you.

I think belief and faith in anything gives an individual mental strength ( a crutch to lean on in hard times).

I am a CWG-ist, which is similar in some ways to Taoists. I love the Tao Te Ching. God does not care one way or another what we believe or what we do.

Though God isn't going to lose anything if you choose not to believe, he still feels betrayed, I'm sure. He created you, yet you defy him as your creator. Wouldn't you feel betrayed?

Not if I realised I could just as easily offer some concrete proof and not expect it to be a guessing game.

God does offer concrete proof. Believers believe, because they have some personal proof that God exits. The proof cannot come from another man/womans experience. If someone does not believe in God/Allah/Abba, they will never hear the voice of God, or see the miracles that are right in front of their eyes.
