Hello I am new here and I am part gypsy

most christian groups belive the tarot and palm reading to be evil along with the power of sight and curses. besides gypsies belive in multipule entities while christians belive in one god only.
But what do you believe? Do you believe that the tarot, palm reading, and the sight to be evil? Do you believe in multiple entities, or just one god?

ahh you have hit the nail on the head my friend. This sounds really dumb but i dont know. When i am with my mothers side i say one god jesus and all that jazz and it feels so normal i really think i belive it ...then i go to my dads side and have the same feelings. My grandmother (the gypsy one) is very into her beliefs and i do belive when i am with her but i dont know which is right. i guess i am leaning christain because it would make my children have an easier time of it. but thats really not a good reason to believe in something. sigh. i feel like a dog chasing its own tail.

You sound pretty tired of trying to make sense of it all - with one side telling you one thing, whilst the other is telling you something else.

I would never give advice, but if I told you that I am happy believing in God, I believe that Jesus Christ did live, and at the same time I read the Tarot, dowse - not just for water, but for minerals and illnesses, I practice Reiki (a Japanese form of holistic therapy by the laying on of hands), would that make you feel 'better' ? It's not all black and white, you know - and the choice about what you believe in is YOURS - if other people think you are wrong, that's their problem. I hope that helps.:)

My mom always says in Afrikaans "Ondersoek alle dinge en behou die goeie" which translates to "Investigate everything and only keep the good"

(Come to think of it, it's 1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Anyway, that's what I would do. If you're doing something that isn't harming anyone, then why not? (Besides, things like tarot only have negative stigmas because people don't understand it...)

I agree.... that is not a good reason. My husband and I are going to raise our children Wiccan, and yes that will be a lot harder for them than the average Christian child... but we cant turn our backs on what we believe in just because it might be 'hard'.
But the fact of the matter is that more and more people are starting to raise their children in secular environments and in alternate religions. It is becoming more and more acceptable these days to do so. It may have been hard when you were growing up, but it might not be the same for your child.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm sure you'll figure it all out eventually. Don't stress - you've got plenty of time. And you're allowed to change your mind as many times as you like :)

One thing I suggest you realize - no one follows any religion exactly. I have a lot of Catholic friends who believe abortion is ok. I have Buddhist friends who follow some Christian teachings. It's not all black-and-white. You can be a Christian, and believe Tarot is ok. You can be a gypsy and still pull from other things. Don't feel the need to label yourself and then limit yourself! Find whatever you feel comfortable with :)

Gypsy? WOOHOO!! ANOTHER!! However, we are of two different origins, mine is Sinti, Zingari, Carrozzoni. I am of the European, Italian breed. :D But that is only a quarter of me. I hate the fact that my ancestors molded to Italian society and became catholic. Now the only part of me that links me to my heritage is my mother's maiden name. No knowledge, no stories, no gatherings. The spirits help me out as much as they can, but I simply have to deal with not knowing who my great ancestors really were. I hope you don't end the line, please don't end the line.

Hey Dreena good to meet you. You say you are a suffering artist who works at olive garden. What kinda artist? Are you going to start a thread about palm reading? Great to meet you. Hope you like it here.

well thats the thing see i am trying to decide if i should raise them catholic (or some version of christianity) or gypsy. I feel guilty about it either way. but being gypsy is so hard in today world i dont want to make their life difficult like mine was.
Hi Dreena.
How about not raising them in any particular theology?

Just tell them where they came from and the rituals and beliefs of all of it and let them decide was is their "Truth".

i am so sry you have lost your culture like that master vigil. Your right i shouldnt deny amy futrure children i may have of thier right to know thier culture. Since effectivley we have been systematically destroyed as a culture since the dawn of time it seems unfair to deny them that peice if themselves. I see that alot of folks here seem to blend alot of religion but in my family thats not how its done you are eiher gypsy or gadje. catholic or not. but i probably will do the "blending" thing because there is no right answer i guess.
