The Me Generation

Nothing irritates me more than people who are so self absorbed and oblivious to the outside world, they expect others to use special words to other people about them. I'm talking about pronoun fixation, by the way. The second thing which irritates me is how people have their various disorders listed, as if to showcase them. First, I don't know why they think people care if they are autistic, ADHD, or whatever else, including their status as indigenous or black.

Someone please explain all this to me? Am I missing something here because when I was growing up, this wasn't a thing. What was a thing was people introducing themselves as a gay man or a lesbian. I found that irritating as well, since I didn't see reason to know the sexual preferences of strangers and co-workers.

If these things really bother you so much...go for a walk. Smell a flower. Donate to a charity. Help a friend.

There are bigger issues in the world to direct your energy toward constructively.

Okay, so you're proud of being autistic. That's weird to me but hey, you float your boat. I also have no idea what you're talking about regarding disability rights. Where I live, people on the low functional scale are generally guided to find jobs and live their lives, ideally free from government assistance. I'm all for it. Please inform me about your activism, since most activists I meet just rant online and call that activism. Not saying you're one of those people.

think people care
Also people do care. Trust me as an autistic person sometimes people are ******** about my autistic traits until they know im autistic. Also sometimes it's the reverse they nice to me till they know I'm autistic. For some reason that little bit of knowledge changes how people see me and id rather their true colours be known from the get go.

... or I could have a debate because I enjoy having debates...

I dont feel like explaining to you when I've read your previous posts. You seem to be stuck in your ways.

Okay, so by identifying as autistic, you are changing how people interact with you? You wish to be treated differently because of your neurological differences?

And GET OFF MY LAWN!

:)

Relax. Just be yourself and let them be whatever they are. I find the pronoun "hey, you" works well enough in most instances. ;)

I agree with you about our culture becoming progressively more self-absorbed. But there's nothing I can do about it. And no reason why I should be in charge of it, anyway. So, it just is what it is.

I wish to get accomadations I need and know who people are from the start.

I mean, I asked nicely...
But you seem like the type that as soon as someone tries to explain anything about trying to change the world around them to get defensive and stand in the way of progress. But I'll answer.

Right now im writing to senators to get certain laws passed I've educated many people on the problems facing many people in the disabled community both in person and online, raised funds for different organizations, tried to get something done about the electric shocks going on in judge Rothenberg center, I've helped educate many places about autism from the viewpoint of a partly verbal autistic among other things.

People have been using labels to identify themselves throughout history.

Sir., Mr., General, Captain, Mrs., Miss, Father, Mother, Christian, Pagan, Republican, Democrat, Veteran, Teacher, etc.

People are who they are, because they are different, but they seek company of likeminded, so they use certain words that can identify them.

There isn't anything to be done other than what none of us really want to see done. However, that doesn't stop me from releasing a bit of stress here, having a debate on the topic while this utterly hard r generation gives the other totalitarians every excuse to bring back fascism. By the way, I dislike both futures, to be honest. Far right and far left are still totalitarianism and I really don't like totalitarianism.

An ironic response from someone criticizing the "Me" generation. Oh well. Have fun.

I don't see the irony. I'm not here asking to be called special words or demanding special inclusive treatment because... reasons.

Tell me about these laws you desire to have passed, please?

Do NOT compare honorific titles and labels to pronouns. "I'm a proud doctor" isn't the same thing as demanding other people use specific pronouns for you. A doctor has earned the title doctor. Johnny who thinks he's Susy hasn't earned anything other than my contempt, yet still feels fit to demand laws be changed so I am forced to call him a she. Furthermore, "Captain" is an earned rank.

Do you deny other people their right to call themselves as they identify?
If a person are identifying as gender fluid, you want to refuse them their right to express their inner private feelings?
