Be good to all, no matter faith or no faith

Spirit of Light

Be who ever you want
Are we as human beings not supposed to be good to our fellow human beings?

Disagreement will always be there, especially between believers and non-believers. But why are we so mean to each others?

Are we not all brothers and sisters?

Question: What can we do to show more respect and kindness toward each other?

I like discussion..
Discussion is the source of enrichment. :)
So if disagreement can be the source of truth, as Socrates used to say through maieutic, then I think you can disagree politely, and above all respecting the other's religion, philosophy or vision.

Well, the problem is that you have to believe that we are all brothers and sisters, since that is an act of faith as there is no evidence for it.
I believe in that we are all brothers and sisters and yet I am a non-believer.

Yes, I believe so. We are all of the same species: the human family. We all have the same father: the Brahmā Prajāpati. We all have the same Mother (with an uppercase m). Admittedly, I am biased toward that perspective!

You can write a letter to the Dalai Lama, asking him that very question. Mail/post it to:

Dalai Lama
Dharamshala

You’ll have to find the rest of the address on your own. :tongueout:

In all seriousness, I think he would have a wonderful answer to your question. I have to make a note to myself to search his quotes for one.

To catch @questfortruth and teach him good manners.

Someone should give you a ‘door prize’ for saying that! :tongueout:

Doesn’t science confirm we are basically all human?

Huh?

On what grounds do you claim that ""there is no evidence of it," and in what way is it a "problem"? Perhaps you should save being argumentative for those cases where there is actually an argument. :D

In general and ideologically yes. It's a nice thought and goal.

Realistically though, being excessively good , like excessively evil, is notably destructive, so i strive for a proper balance or equilibrium that balances out that nature.

It's a reason why I renamed my moniker as Twilight.

That is debate, because there is more to being a human than natural science and more science than natural science.

In short as natural goes, it is natural to kill another human in scientific terms, so it doesn't work.
In short, you are polluting the thread with silly sophistry. Given ...

Are we not all brothers and sisters?

... it should not be all that difficult to recognize the employment of metaphor.

Perhaps just recognising, and if possible, removing the barriers between us? My rant, as usual, is that there tends to be far more barriers erected by religious beliefs than not having such. And added to any existing ones which might be there anyway.

I’m all for it. We can disagree without hate.

Well, if religion is not a special something outside the world, but rather a part of it, then to me religion is not special. And the barriers are not religious as such. They are a part of the general human condition.
In other words I don't consider neither a special negative or positive, but rather a part of how humans deal with being human.

When something comes from an unprovable source, I think that probably puts it in a different category, especially when it is gobbled up wholesale by some. How do you counter such?
