How is it possible

Eh... It's not really poetic or high minded, but I just roll up my sleeves, pick one task, and focus on knocking them out one by one. For the things that are out of my control, I educate myself on them until I feel that I have a good grasp on what things are and what I can hope to expect to unfold. I can brace myself for the worst and meet my problems halfway.

In understanding my problems, I can better tackle them and predict how the dominoes are going to fall. I will not play a passive role in my own life, and that brings with it peace of mind. :)

How is it possible to find complete calm from within but still feel the pressure from this world?
A contradiction. Why does a person need pressure of the world? Accept life as it is, keep trying your best to achieve your goals. Why should one feel pressure in that?

Gita 2.47
"karmaṇy evādhikārah te, mā phaleṣu kadācana;
mā karma-phala-hetur bhūh, mā te saṅgah tu akarmaṇi."

Your right extends to performance of your duty, the result of actions is not in your hands;
don't be just for the result of your actions, and never be enamored of inaction.
Physical world, why is it so much pressure to be somebody? Why the hunt for wordly possesions?
People make their choices, and hunt for different things, create their own pressures.

I don't know how different it is where you live compared to the states. Though, the only worldly possessions that we don't really have a choice to obtain is money and basic necessities (health and finances). Everything else, if not taking care of anyone, is pretty much up to you. Other than work and necessities, if I may ask, what worldly possessions that's pressuring you and have no control over?

Mostly it is people around me who "push" for me to buy things i have no use for (i live a very minimalistic life) So it feels like a pressure from them that it is important to have fancy things we own, so we can show to others. That is so far from who i am :) And when i did ask them to stop they did stop, just kept trying to find a way to make me buy things.

I have a mental switch. When I flick it, light goes on on the inside while darkness rules the outside.

I call it "the zone".
I usually enter "the zone" when playing drums. At least, that's when I have the easiest time to enter "The Zone".

When I'm in "the zone", the only thing that exists, is me, the drums and the music I'm playing along to. The door is closed and that room is the entire universe.

After a really successful session, I actually need a couple minutes to enter "the real world" again. Almost as if one just wakes up from a deep sleep.

I feel totally zen after that.

The drums are my ticket into "The Zone".
What's yours?

Everybody needs a switch in this performance-focused, information-overload, stress-driven 21st century modern world.

Most people don't have the luxury to escape it and live care-free. Having said that, one has to take that with a grain of salt also... because I don't believe any care-free existence is even possible.

No matter your situation (social, economical, what-have-you), you will not be care free.
There will always be something to worry about.

If you are poor, you'll worry about how to feed your kids.
If you win the lottery, you won't worry about how to feed your kids. But it will come with other worries, like how not to spoil your kids.

So indeed, whatever your situation: I advice everybody to find something to where one can "escape" from time to time. Build your own care-free world / room, virtual or otherwise, where you can go and "hide" from the outside from time to time.

Your mental health (and by extension, physical health), will thank you.

:)

I think it is good you live a minimalist lifestyle. Life doesn’t come from getting more stuff. It can be often in wanting more than one doesn’t even enjoy what is already theirs.

Mahatma Gandhi famously shunned material possessions, wearing only a diaper to important United Nations meetings (said to be a real dhoti). He pushed for religious pluralism in India rather than carving a Muslim nation out of Indian.

Cast off possessions. Cast off all clothing. Be free.

At the very least, you'll be known as the naked dude of the forum. When people salute you, you can salute back.

Well i have no intention of going extreme :) And nakedness is not something i seek. My clothing will soon be similar to arabs using.

By embracing Thawheed.

There is no divinity other than God/the divinity.

Quran explains, do not take your own desire/ego as divine. Do not take your wealth as divine. Do not take priests as divine. Nothing is lord. Only God is the divine.

I believe when you shed all kinds of crazy loving (divine worship) for all of these things you have a particular calm that is strange and calming really. Now with this premise, the foundation, you will have a family, children, work, and you will still feel the pressure. But these things are part of life, yet nothing is divine. So when you truly embrace the Quranic concept of Thawheed, I believe wholeheartedly you would find calm from within, but still feel the pressure from this world.

Excellent post.
