Trump and Melania have Covid

I'm excited to see the implications of the election tbh, if anyone knows any links to really knowledgeable political commentaries or experts weighing in. Still very breaking but still

In the UK, when the Prime Minister got COVID he got a big jump in popularity.

Unless he dies/gets so sick he can't run, hard to see how this could harm Trump electorally.

He recovers quickly: narrative that he's tough and we can beat COVID, America bouncing back, resilience, etc.
He gets quite sick then recovers: sympathy vote, can't criticise him, people rally round the office of President out of patriotism, etc.

All the gleeful 'ha-ha' type messages might well push some undecideds away from the side sending them.

The God I believe in fights against evil, and Trump is pure evil, so its not surprising that God might be punishing him.

Careful what you wish for lest it come true...

If it helps him win 4 more years, will that mean your god forgot to fight against evil in this case? or that Trump isn't evil and was Divinely favoured? or will it be quietly swept under the carpet?

If there was one rule "do no harm" then I am fine with seeing suffering so long as it's not me?
Yes, karma. Hope he get really sick I am sorry to say.
Trump should have learnt the lesson 'Do no harm' long ago - but he didn't. Which is why so many detest him.

His mishandling of the pandemic was a major factor in his poor polling numbers. So, this has to hurt him badly, IMO.

But Boris was/is nowhere hated as much as Trump is. Who knows how all this will play out.

Seriously? What kind of divine being would try to communicate by causing certain people to catch an already widespread infectious disease?
A deity manufactured from the pareidolia of the credulous.

And what kind of person would venerate and worship such a being? The entire idea is psychotic!
Enh. People tend to have Gods that agree with them, and schadenfreude is a pretty normal reaction to hearing about the misfortune of an awful person.

Exactly what evil has this prevented?

If Trump getting COVID-19 (if he really does have it) but still being President is the best your God can do to "fight against evil," then your God is incompetent.

That would mean that those who tested negative for COVID can still get it?

They did say those in the debate and audience everyone were tested. That. And why "conveniently" after the debate?

Something's fishy.

I just noticed that this was in the Religious section...

So for me this leads to another question...

Let's play devil's advocate and say like the TV preacher personalities try to sell, that Trump is favored by God.

Would God give a favored person COVID, or not?

No. I'd assume god wouldn't hate people for their political stance in one country of many all around the world. Americans put ourselves up too much sometimes.

CNN reports from Trump's own tweets, is this a sign from God??

If Biden gets it because he didn't wear a mask during their debate . . .

If they both are asymptomatic . . .

If they pass instead, and Pence is elected . . .

If Trump says, "I had it bigger than anyone, and I know this virus, and we had a great meeting last week, we have a great, great relationship . . . "

If people at RF knew the signs of the times . . .

He might recover just fine - at least in a medical sense. But this will further tarnish
him politically as he himself has fallen victim to something he once dismissed.

In what way is it fishy?

I think it's entirely possible that Trump really has COVID-19. I think it's also entirely possible that he's lying. We probably won't be able to say for sure that he's telling the truth unless it's confirmed by an independent doctor or if he ends up on a ventilator.

In the meantime, I think I'll take my lead from how other world leaders respond. An ill American president is a potential worldwide crisis; hopefully other countries will have intelligence on whether this is real or fake.

I think it's plausible that he could try to spin this if he ends up not having severe symptoms - or if he's lying - to either portray himself as a tough guy, or to argue that COVID-19 isn't that big a deal (and therefore that his crappy response to COVID-19 isn't a huge blunder that didn't cost countless lives).
