common ground

Both religious and nonreligious have a common ground. The common ground is the golden rule ''be nice to yourself and others''. Theology is irrelevant. So, we all unite. Theology is just little details. The countless religions are details. We ALL have the one golden rule. ;) Theists, atheists, agnostics, etc so what? We are neighbours. In my opinion. :)

I think there is often a conflict between being nice to yourself and being nice to others.

This is likely the area where all the drama gets launched from.

I agree that is common ground, but the greater common ground as the morals and ethics of humanity is not acknowledged as universal and fundamental as being human from the perspective of different belief systems.

I believe science can be another common ground in the future, but now it grounds for conflict.

The only common ground I can think of would be the base collective experience that we all share.

Some choose a direct scientific approach and others choose a more interpretive path to those same collective experiences. Maybe even a mix of science and interpretation.

kind of like finding the common ground between inmates with amnesia on death row.
trading in ideas is the currency of the day and the typical way to pass the time..

I've met people who reject the golden rule. Just saying.

I think that people will be learning more and more to promote and defend whatever they believe in, and discuss their disagreements, without any animosities or hostilities and without any harm to anyone, but I think that no matter what anyone says or does, insults, personal attacks, badgering, baiting, heckling and other harmful and distracting behavior will continue to be popular for many years, possibly a few more generations. I think that anyone who wants to can help reduce the popularity of harmful and distracting behavior, and help reduce and counteract its adverse effects. Sometimes I see people doing all of that in these forums. Also, I think that any two or more people who want to can discuss whatever they want to without any animosities or hostilities between them and without being harmed or distracted by any harmful and distracting behavior that might be happening in threads where they’re posting.

It struck me two days ago. I was trying to define my religion, a pagan, and I was finding that I cut people off.:(

and I can foretell......THAT.....will not cease

as we stand before God and heaven.....clarity
and the lines drawn will be seen

I have posted for years....the peace of heaven is guarded

so.....this character Thief will have his day of reckoning
and position will be dealt

I do not expect to wander about at liberty

if fortune is with me....
I shall have a hooded robe....that I may hide my face
and a ring on my finger …..a sign the robe was given and not stolen

I do not expect that all of heaven will greet me with open arms

and there may be gatherings for which I lack the grace to participate

see Job

Well being nice to yourself may mean finding a way to hoard a little extra cash to buy yourself that Mercedes or Porche you've had you eye on by not giving to charity or finding a reason to not give you employees a pay increase.

It could mean backstabbing your best friends relationship with his new girlfriend so the two of you get to spend more quality time together.

Perhaps you find your sense of justice being violated by having your neighbor partially block your driveway with his car. Feeling the only way to bring back a sense of balance is to go out and key their car.
