I don't know. It's a good question. I can attempt to apply apologetics to it; but, I think that would be in poor taste considering how recently these people were killed.
However, here's something...
I'm not in favor of any death penalty personally. However, if the execution method was more like a guillotine, i would be less opposed to it.

What makes you think I can rationalize this?
I'm the hard core ProLifer, I find it difficult to rationalize killing people for any reason. From the Unborn to career criminals to preemptive war to environmental degradation.
I suppose I can understand the use of that particular method. It's a traditional, low tech, method easily made a public spectacle. That's got a lot of value if your goal is to intimidate the locals.

I do hate fundamentalism, that's true.
It is interesting how countries with large christian populations have never heard of these heinous christian terror groups. Even more interesting, around half of them are US based.
But yes they should, be tried and sentenced for their crimes just as daesh and all other terror groups should.
But chasing down a christian terror group doesn't really have the wow factors does it?

In the New Testament, all criminal punishments are left in the hands of the government The church may disfellowship a person and restore them after repentance.
The 'lake of fire' is the ultimate judgement crisis and ultimately God holds the punishment.

Yes, quite often a Christian will deny the OT has influence over Christians. I have yet to see one who advocates removing the OT from the christian bible and thus reducing its size by 85%.
