Well, I definitely plan on watching the show since I am aware of her story. Without knowing all that many of the facts surrounding it, I'd still strongly doubt that the Church had any idea how horrendous the abuse was. I know that for quite some time, the Church did advocate "Conversion Therapy" which, in my opinion, is positively unconscionable. But this goes way beyond even what Conversion Therapists would have advocated.
My belief is that my Church still has a long, long way to go towards making LGBT people feel loved and welcomed. That's why "Mormons Building Bridges" was formed. I've marched with them every year for the past seven years. Even the "official policy" regarding LGBT couples and their children has softened some. Still, "tolerant" is relative and we do have a problem, in my opinion. About all any of us can do at this point is individually show our LGBT brothers and sisters that we care about them and do not judge them.
