I think unchecked immigration causes it in developed nations, in developing countries I put it down to unwarranted prideWhat is happening to the world? Why is Extreme Nationalism on its rise so much in the world today?

Nationalism is often a symptom of a crisis (real or fabricated). The solution to the crisis is hard, lengthy or not wanted by the elites. Nationalism is offered as an easy and fast solution. It taps into an old tribal mechanism. In times of plenty it is easy and advantageous to share but when resources are scarce, it is better for the tribe to fight for the resources. What is happening to the world? I mostly agree but this is older than Bronze Age thinking. There were very advanced and sophisticated cultures during that time. That's prehistoric hunter-gatherer thinking. The solution is to explain how bronze age behaviour isn't working in a world economy.
My guess is that it's a combination of fear, and the fact that the planet's population is far more mobile than ever. Mobility a threat against your ethnocentricity, and so defensive posturing arises quite naturally.

That sounded like the way Hitler thought in the beginning of his political path. And this is what I fear maybe the most when it comes to the world. that example Trump or some other rightwing crazy person going to try to take over the world. But of course, it can happen from the very far left from Communism too. And that is just as bad as far-right.It is natural reaction to globalism, crony capitalism, political sellouts, foreign aid, etc. The secondary relation is what matters as most nations practice soft-nationalism.

Maybe time we start to see each other as human beings and not different races and nationalities?21st C nationalism is a response to issues caused by globalism and universalistic ideologies.
It is one of many major problems that could be mitigated by an increased move towards localism, but unfortunately most people opposed to nationalism think the solution is more globalism.
Nationalism is mostly a modern phenomenon (last 300 years). There weren't really national identities as such prior to this (or even nations).

So if i understand you right, you say Bigger cities will help? but living out in the countryside will be worse? The best way to do this is to make people feel secure in heir own identity with control over their own community.
When you tell people they are wrong to adopt markers of identity and encourage policies that make them subject to forces that are increasingly beyond their control you encourage the opposite.
Decentralisation (i.e. localism) helps in this regard and also weakens ethno-nationalism.
