Did you know the Moon is part of Mars? According to Derpy Donny Dollhands it is!

What he said was fine. It's called confirmation bias. It's when you look for info that confirms your bias. So the people that hate Trump will always take issue with what he says. And like these lefty "journalist" and other people took his quote out of context and only posted half of it to manipulate what he said into something completely different.

If I did that here. Say I quoted Shadow Wolf above from a different thread. Then brought it here, posted it out of context, and even took some of what she said out of the quote to distort it further. That is against the rules of this forum.

So why would anyone think it's ok to do to a public figure on a public stage? Its immortal and dishonest.
Who took what out of context? In the two tweets I linked this is what he wrote. Again he is the president, it shouldn't be up to people to try to piece together what he is talking about. He chose to use twitter as one of his primary ways of informing the world and the Americans about what he is thinking. So you ought to think he should be slightly more careful in what he writes. I really don't see anyone else to blame than his own method of communication.

This. I have terrible writing skills, but I still realize I must accept the consequences of them.

You blame the people that take it out of context and manipulate it.

Will his supporters in turn admit Trump has crap grammar skills if that is what he meant?
I mean sure, he's an old man using Twitter where he's confined to 140 characters. Those types generally tend to write pretty horribly.

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
At least that's how I would interpret it as you need to give the speaker/writer the benefit of the doubt.
The dude has access to the best speechwriters available. I don't have to give him the benefit of anything. He's the ****ing President of the United States, not a Year 8 English student. It's not unreasonable to expect him to express himself without a host of translators to parse what he "really" means.

"For all of the money we are spending, NASA should NOT be talking about going to the Moon - We did that 50 years ago. They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!"

In context it's talking about "bigger things we are doing" so going to the Moon is a part of going to Mars.

At least that's how I would interpret it as you need to give the speaker/writer the benefit of the doubt. Modern discourse relies far too much on people interpreting the words of those they don't like with bad faith, giving them the most negative spin possible and then using them as a weapon.

Everyone hates it when other people interpret their words with bad faith, or it is done to people they like. As such everyone, especially your 'enemies', should be given the benefit of the doubt if alternative interpretations are plausible.

The way this has been reported in certain media outlets doesn't reflect well on the state of modern journalism.

Modern journalism? It reflects Trump's education and his habitual sloppiness.

It definitely could be interpreted that way, but it's almost certainly not what he meant.

That's why you read things with good faith and give them the benefit of the doubt.
I love that for the most part, the people screaming and wailing about how unfair it is that people hold Donny Dollhands to account for his endless crazy pronouncements and demanding that we give him "the benefit of the doubt" and trot out completely contradictory reimaginings of "what he really meant", are the exact same people who were ready to burn Obama at the stake as a Muslim terrorist over the handful of times he misspoke or awkwardly phrased something (or even times he said something quite reasonable, which was then run through incredibly overwrought, over contrived interpretations to determine malice where none existed).

No fan of Obama, me, but the double standard and hypocrisy among the trumpettes and other Usual Suspects is, as usual, stunning.

It's so unfair to point out when Derpy Donny says something ridiculous and blatantly false! The true villains here are the journalists who quote him verbatim!

Im going to do the unthinkable and rewrite his tweet, and im not even American.

Under my Administration, we are restoring @NASA to greatness and we are going back to the Moon, then Mars. I am updating my budget to include an additional $1.6 billion so that we can return to Space in a BIG WAY!

For all of the money we are spending, NASA should push forward the plans of reaching Mars by building the launching facilities needed on the moon as a necessary stepping stone for this important mission. To expand our knowledge and science about our neighboring planet. Which is known to not be part of the moon.

That is actually a lot harder to do than I thought, as the original message even when rewritten makes little sense :D

Well you did butcher it.

Here I'll clean it up and make it civilized for ya.;)

"Considering how much funding NASA receives each year. I think we should push for planning of human exploration of Mars. In order to do this we may have to make several trips to the Moon to store supplies for a future launch from there to Mars. This mission will only help to expand our knowledge of science and our neighboring planets."

:D

Makes more sense than certain writings by ancient people that have to have pastors and other religious superstars interpret and explain to the people, over and over and over...

Well you certainly didn't post anything verbatim in this thread so, as I proved with a screenshot of the actual tweet. Not really sure why you so upset. You posted a tweet that had missing information, and out of context. If you want to be mad be mad at yourself.

Watch this by Neil deGrasse Tyson and you can see how much "much" is, I think you will be surprised.

I don't have time to listen to Neil drone on all day. Love the guy, but he don't know how to get to the point sometimes.

Budget of NASA - Wikipedia

"NASA's budget for fiscal year (FY) 2019 is $21.5 billion. It represents 0.49% of the $4.4 trillion the United States plans to spend that year. Since its inception, the United States has spent $601.31 billion (in nominaldollars) on NASA."

"As a federal agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) receives its funding from the annual federal budget passed by the United States Congress."

If you are unhappy with NASA only receiving $21.5 billion a year I suggest you contact your representatives in Congress and tell them to get on the ball and stop being so cheap. ;)
