So that's where the Trumpettes are now?
We've gone from "it never happened" to "it happened but it wasn't illegal" to "it happened and it was illegal but Trump didn't know about it" and now we've reached "it happened, it was illegal and Trump knew about it, but you can't impeach him because Pence would be worse!"
My position on the issue is the same: Nothing will happen to Trump for an issue that happened in his private space. He can lie all he wants, but it's a civil not a criminal matter. Collusion isn't a crime, all the people charged and found guilty were guilty of things like fraud and tax evasion. Trump isn't even in question as far as illegal acts or Mueller would have gone straight to the jugular.
1) Colluding with Russia to win an election is election fraud. You pay a fine, nothing else happens. To revert or repair election results they would have to absolutely prove the discrepancy. Otherwise, they stick. If they had this, it'd have already happened. If he was talking with Russia before the elections he's a private citizen and that's allowed. If he was talking with them after his oath those conversations are totally within the scope of a Presidents diplomatic duties.
2) Sneaking money through your lawyer to hush someone with an NDA. Civil not criminal matter. If the funds were found to be campaign funds, or something that could be considered as such - fine, no jail. Obama did similar mishandling of campaign money. They would have to prove that he didn't know he could use his personal funds and intended to commit the offense. Not likely. Fine, no jail, no impeachment, even if he knew what he was doing was wrong.
So, don't buy the hype because that's all it is. I'm not thinking Trump is some innocent little whatever or anything, but these convictions of third parties have no impact. Any testimony Cohen provides will seem coerced to a jury, so likely will fall on deaf ears as well. My recommendation is keep a cool head, realize the **** show for what it is. Perhaps what bothers me the most is the Dems are playing their own constituents. If Mueller doesn't have an actual case on Trump by October even the bulk of the Dems will be disgusted.
