Because you can’t trust in God to meet people’s needs?
is an excellent question.

modern christians believe that god is a magician, that will magically alter the worshiper's life. modern christians believe that, if they pray, then god will grant them every wish, like the genie in the lamp.

but that's not how god works.

god made the cosmos, and then he sent jesus christ, to show us the rules of how we should play the game of life.

modern christians do not care about the rules of how we should live our lives, and instead, they pray for miracles, genie in the lamp god.

Not just modern Christians. From Matthew 6:

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t there more to life than food and more to the body than clothing? 26 Look at the birds in the sky: They do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you more valuable than they are? 27 And which of you by worrying can add even one hour to his life? 28 Why do you worry about clothing? Think about how the flowers of the field grow; they do not work or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these! 30 And if this is how God clothes the wild grass, which is here today and tomorrow is tossed into the fire to heat the oven, won’t he clothe you even more, you people of little faith? 31 So then, don’t worry saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For the unconverted pursue these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.

Typically, Christians describe God as akin to a father or a shepherd. Does a good father let his children starve? Does a good shepherd let his flock be eaten by wolves?

There's a line in Anne of Green Gables where a devoutly religious character criticizes someone for despairing because "to despair is to turn your back on God." That's the spirit I'm going for: if you're being driven by despair for the poor or the hungry, aren't you admitting that you don't trust God?

I mean, the record shows that God probably shouldn't be trusted, but still: hasn't a Christian put their trust in God? Isn't that what faith is?

the healthy trust in god is trusting in jesus' teachings of how we should live our lives. faith is that everything, that god wants for us, is for our own benefit. but we are selfish and greedy and misguided. when we say ''we have faith in god'' we should mean that we live in accordance to god's laws, and we do not wait for magical miracles.

i don't have one. it's what i understand most christians do nowadays. i often hear people say that they have problems with other people, and they pray to god to fix their problem, instead of confronting the problem with others.

Telling yourself that you shouldn't expect God to answer your prayers is just another way of getting used to the truth (that he is non existant) without having to face it head on.

Perhaps it would be better to say "Some Christians" or "Christians that I am familar with" since I know many Christians who confront problems with love.

This is a viewpoint akin to a mule wearing blinders.

I know of many fathers who try to stop their children who are about to be eaten by wolves (analogy) but can do nothing to stop it because of free will.

let's say that christ is a myth and there is no god. humans will eat each other apart! that is why we must protect christianity.
Poe's Law? Because if not, that is utterly dumb. The Netherlands is one of the most secular places in the world, and they're doing just fine. Also, the absence of God results in cannibalism?

they know christianity no matter how secular they think they are. in the netherlands there are whole generations who know about christ or were former christians. christianity isn't unknown in the netherlands.

Also, the absence of God results in cannibalism?
perhaps, who knows to what evil depths can people go.
